Players of the Year: (Shared by Jayda Curry Jayda Curry 5'6" | PG Corona Centennial | 2021 State CA and Brooke Demetre Brooke Demetre 6'3" | SF Mater Dei | 2021 State #5 Nation CA )
2021, 5’6, PG/SG, Corona Centennial HS, Jayda Curry Jayda Curry 5'6" | PG Corona Centennial | 2021 State CA – Jayda is exciting to watch every time she plays in a game, she is electric, she is tough, she is relentless on the court and proves it daily. She can get to the rim, which is her specialty and she does it well cause she is able to draw contact and the foul often. She can shoot the ball from deep, get to the rim, but her midrange game is improving. She will play the point guard in college and need to distribute a little more, but she is proven and ready for the next level.
2021, 6’3, SF, Mater Dei HS, Brooke Demetre Brooke Demetre 6'3" | SF Mater Dei | 2021 State #5 Nation CA – Brookes consistency on the floor and her willingness to always strive for greatness when on the floor. She is crafty at her size, she is athletic, can really create a matchup problem for those guarding her. She shoots the ball well from midrange and three point line and will not hesitate to take you to the rim and finish thru contact on you.
Team Selections:
Michelle Duchemin – Windward 2021
In my eyes, the CSUN commit is one of the more underrated players in SoCal. Duchemin doesn’t need the ball in her hands to be effective. She’s got a strong motor and is very active around the rim. She’s a worker on the glass and fights hard for rebounds on both ends. A good interior defender. She makes plays that won’t always show up in stats. She can finish around the rim and has a little midrange shot. She’ll have a big effect for Windward in the postseason.
Hannah Stines Hannah Stines 5'9" | SG Troy HS | 2022 State CA – Orangewood Academy 2022
Stines to me was one of the biggest stock risers this spring. Playing on both the EYBL circuit and on her high school team, Stines already has some Division 1 offers, but certainly cemented her name as a player to watch out for in SoCal. She has become very comfortable with the ball in her hands and being able to create offense off the dribble. She can use screens to free herself for jumpers and she has a solid three-point shot. She can get to the rim and can also find open teammates.
Alyssa Frescas Alyssa Frescas 5'8" | SG Mater Dei | 2021 State CA – Mater Dei (Santa Ana) 2021
Alyssa had a decent game last night, she hit a big three pointer in the second half of the game to give her team a lead. She defended well, taking on Londynn Jones Londynn Jones 5'5" | PG Santiago | 2022 State #9 Nation CA and Jayda Curry Jayda Curry 5'6" | PG Corona Centennial | 2021 State CA a bit in this game, proved to be a good effort for her. She led the team down the stretches with some key steals and some good passing, she was the passer that hit Nalani White for the game winning three pointer.
