Talaysia Cooper Talaysia Cooper 6'1" | CG East Clarendon | 2022 State #61 Nation SC – East Clarendon HS – Talaysia Cooper Talaysia Cooper 6'1" | CG East Clarendon | 2022 State #61 Nation SC arrived. Talaysia Cooper Talaysia Cooper 6'1" | CG East Clarendon | 2022 State #61 Nation SC saw. Talaysia Cooper Talaysia Cooper 6'1" | CG East Clarendon | 2022 State #61 Nation SC did a bit of it all at Friday’s Presbyterian camp. In one of the Wolverines’ games against Porter-Gaud, it was almost a shoo-in that Cooper would have the ball in her hands and the Cyclones had no answer for her. She ran point. She shot the 3-pointer. She attacked the basket. She showcased how great she can be with her handles. Cooper will get her own rebounds, drain tries at the free throw line and can completely throw defenses off balance. Cooper was in attack mode much of the time, but she also knows when to distribute.
Alicia Spann Alicia Spann 6'2" | C Sumter | 2022 State SC – Sumter HS – She is one of those stars that surely will get mention on any Prep Girls Hoops recap from any event Sumter is involved in. With her height of 6-foot-3, she poses problems for anyone in the low post she is looking to score on or anyone in the low post looking to put points on the board on her. Spann’s height also gives her Sumter Gamecocks a formidable rebounding edge against many a team they face as well as a shot blocking threat. If she draws contact, she can get to the line for free throw tries. Sumter advanced to last season’s 5A state championship game and with Spann coming back for her senior season, the Gamecocks will be considered a top threat to be at the top of the 5A heap again.
Jasmine Grant Jasmine Grant 6'0" | PF Summerville | 2022 State SC – Summerville HS – As long as Grant is on the court for coach Calvin Davis’ Green Wave, Summerville’s scoreboards are likely to remain in the green. She will provide plenty of productivity in the low post. She will consistently attack the rim and as much as she does, this opens up the possibility that she will get fouled plenty of times to give her lots of chances to hit freebies for the Green Wave. What coaches love just as much as someone who can make plays near the rim is someone who is versatile and can play several positions to bolster a team’s backcourt. No. 15 does that.
Miquala Fortson – Laurens HS – From one 2022 who wears a green and gold No. 4 to another. Miquala Fortson is mighty ferocious. She can be very fast and energetic with the ball and knows how to get defenses off balance with her creative ball handling skills. She runs point very well and is a vocal leader as well for her Raiders. Fortson adds 3-point shooting to Laurens’ offensive attack as well as an ability to attack the rim even through a slew of defenders. Even though her scoring potential is what draws attention to her, Fortson can get things done on the defensive side of the court.
Alexis Sexton Alexis Sexton 5'9" | CG Lexington | 2022 State SC – Lexington HS – One of two team captains still remaining from last season’s Wildcats rendition, Lexington’s Alexis Sexton Alexis Sexton 5'9" | CG Lexington | 2022 State SC always makes her team’s chance of winning the more extra. When she is feeling her 3-point shot, there is little that opposing teams can do about it except hope she bricks her shot. Sexton can also get creative with her passes and has shown her durability with the amount of playing time she receives on a consistent basis. Rebounding has also been proven to be a hallmark of Sexton’s game in addition to what she contributes on defense with her being a consistent threat to steal the ball.
Amaya Johnson – Lexington HS – Experience (or in this case, Lex-perience) has been known to win in basketball. And with the 2021-22 version of the Wildcats fielding three seniors, that experience is sure to pay dividends. Johnson can go strong to the cup and will also make plays in the low post. Her speed is one of the things that surely will get noticed if one were to watch her play for the first time. Johnson poses a threat at all times on defense to steal the ball. She is a versatile talent that can either one of the backcourt positions at guard or in the frontcourt as a four or five.
