Calvin Harper of Top Shelf Athletics did a fantastic job of bringing together some of the best AAU teams in the area. Here’s a breakdown of the top 5 women who made a name for themselves on Saturday.
Dani Morales 6’0 F/C 2022
Passaic HS/Tri City Ballers
When the going gets tough so does Dani. She won’t be pushed around by anyone. Her mixture of power and finesse keeps defenders on their heels. She’s an aggressive rebounder on both sides of the glass. The type of girl you always need to account for on the court. She can beat you with her back to the basket as well as face up to score. Think twice before you challenge her at the rim unless you’re used to rejection.
Joniah Coleman 5’7 G 2021
Passaic/Tri City Ballers
A pure athlete is the best way to describe this talented guard. When she’s not busy knocking down shots from behind the arc you can find her finishing at the basket. Joniah can beat you in many different ways with the ball in her hand but is at her best on defense. Whoever she’s matched up against is in for a long day. Her quick feet and active hands create chaos on the perimeter which often leads to turnovers and fast brakes for the Lady Ballers.
Nandi Cameron PG 5’6 2021
Paterson Kennedy/Tri City Ballers
Terrific vision and a deceptive first step always put her in a great position. Whether it’s knocking down three-pointers or finding her teammates under the basket, Nandi always knows what to do with the ball. She’s a true facilitator with outstanding leadership skills. This queen is a court general who knows how to get the rest of her team involved.
Anna Hanson C 6’1 2022
Hunterdon Central/NJ Blaze
Size and strength combined with good footwork make this six-footer a nightmare to guard around the basket. The way she moves for her size is impressive. Anna is a dominant post player who can also turn and shoot. She has above-average dribbling skills for a center and is comfortable advancing the ball up court during press situations. She’s a good shot blocker and grabs any rebound she can get her hands on. All this girl needs is a canvas cause she already owns the paint.
Madeline Morgan G 5’7 2022
Warren Hills/NJ Blaze
Madeline Morgan is one of the most complete basketball players I have seen in a while. She can score from anywhere or help her teammates do the same. The crafty guard easily navigates her way around the court while never picking up her dribble. No matter how many defenders are in her way she always keeps fighting. Her ability to constantly attack the basket puts a tremendous amount of pressure on the opposition. On defense, she’s just as relentless. Most importantly she has a high basketball IQ and the rare ability to elevate her play when the game is on the line. This isn’t the last time you’ll be hearing about this Blazer.
All the games that took place were evenly matched which provided a competitive nature that was evident throughout the day. Hats off to the players and everyone involved.
