United AAU, operating out of Hunterdon Township, is one of Central Jersey’s premiere AAU programs and has a fantastic pipeline of talent coming through it.
The girls in this program are must-watch prospects, especially the 17U team. Let’s go to the tape to see what sets these girls apart from the rest.
We start with Isabella Asencio, a rising junior guard from Immaculate Heart and one of just three rising juniors on the roster. We got a chance to profile Asencio earlier this month and she’s an exciting watch.

Don’t be fooled by her 5-4 frame because she’s one of the most aggressive players on this 17U team, often driving into the lane for scoring opportunities. She’s great at the dribble drive from the perimeter and that opens up space for her to dish the ball off to teammates.
Asencio plays with a high level of swagger and confidence and it really shows when she’s knocking down three-pointers from the perimeter. She has great range on offense and if you need a basket, she’s the go-to playmaker to get those clutch points.
From Asencio, we go to two teammates from Sparta, starting with rising junior forward Brynn McCurry Brynn McCurry 6'1" | PF Sparta | 2023 State NJ . Watching her high school tape, you could see this season that she evolved into a superstar, averaging over 20 points a game for Sparta.

That’s carried over to the AAU circuit in a big way as she’s continued to dominate in all facets of the game, starting with her inside presence, which has been felt on both sides of the basketball.
Good luck trying to guard her in the lane because she uses her 6-1 frame and long arms to her advantage. She’s really improved in her mid-range game and we’ve seen her go to the floater and jump hook a lot, which is a welcomed addition to her offensive arsenal.
On defense, she’s incredibly agile and is all over the place, causing turnovers off steals and defending the block well as a great shot-blocker. She’s just laying down the foundation to become one of the best players in the state coming into the high school season this fall.
Her teammate, Ally Sweeney Ally Sweeney 5'8" | SG Sparta | 2023 State NJ , is the last player we’ll be talking about in this article, but Sweeney and Asencio have very similar playing styles as the lone point guards on United’s 17U squad.
She’s got fantastic handles as a point guard and can easily cross up and defender in front of her, as we’ve seen in video. To have that killer crossover allows her to generate space in front of her to be able to shoot, and she’s got a really smooth release on her shot.

Sweeney is a great shooter and has great range around the floor, and that tenacity on the offensive end translates well into her lock-down defense on the other side of the court.
We’ll be talking more about United AAU this season, so stay tuned as we continue to traverse around the NJ AAU circuit.
