This past weekend the top talent in the country was on display. Headliners like Paulina Paris and Madison St. Rose Madison St. Rose 5'10" | PG St. John Vianney | 2022 State #65 Nation NJ impressed at the 2021 Nike EYBL National Tournament, but let’s take a look at some of the young stars that shined through.
Rylie Theaurkauf 5’7″ SG 2023 Tenafly HS/Exodus NYC
Despite an abbreviated high school season, her stats were staggering. The top scorer in New Jersey averaged almost 37 points/game and scored 75 percent of her team’s total points. I wouldn’t be surprised if she averaged in the forties next year. She is the most relentless scorer in the state. Attacking the basket is second nature to her. Unfortunately for defenders, she can also shoot the lights out from behind the arc. That’s only the beginning. Her high basketball IQ has become more evident throughout the summer. She continues to get better even when competing against the top competition in the country. Not only can she score but her heads-up mentality has become an asset for her teammates. She can create on her own and distribute. Rylie also brings the same mentality on the defensive side of the ball. With her junior year just around the corner, the expectations are through the roof for the Tigres of Tenafly.

Mia & Mya Pauldo 5’6″ G 2025 Morris Catholic HS/NJ Sparks
Normally I wouldn’t write about two players together like this but in this case, I don’t see how I can’t. Both girls have a very diverse set of skills that set them apart from their competition but not each other. They are truly the definition of teamwork. The “Twin Backcourt” can handle, shoot and facilitate, but that’s not all. Both are lockdown defenders who can put a tremendous amount of pressure on the opposition. Their physical abilities on both sides of the ball make them great but what makes them special is their mental comprehension of the game. They are wise beyond their years. That’s why they’re able to compete on such a high level at such a young age. Their 51-49 victory versus Kia Nurse Elite is a testament to the value they provide their team. Mia finished with 26 points and 4 assists while Mya stuffed the sheet with 7 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. If that’s not impressive enough they also handed the daughters of some former NBA all-stars a defeat as well. Sorry, Shaq. They’ve already committed to Morris Catholic High School for this fall, but we’ll just have to wait and see where the duo from Paterson winds up in four years from now. With over ten offers from some of the top Division 1 programs in the country Its anybody’s guess. Not bad considering they just graduated from the 8th grade.
