Continue ReadingNumbers beside names are irrelevant, Dan Olsen was the guy for ASGR when my daughter was heading to the 9th grade and they initially had her at 250, at the guard spot, but that was primarily because of words I exchanged with the ASGR director, who I despise to this day, but I said all of that to say this, there are politics, there are those with agendas as well as those who are, clueless and (or) in cliques, I fall into none of those categories and could care less what anyone thinks and the only number anyone should worry about is the number of colleges offering that player a shot. I will always base things on what I see, logos, shoe circuits, none of that matters to me so I forgot to bring the before list on the ones who moved up so I’ll break this down into two parts
Gwendlyn McGrew Gwendlyn McGrew 6'0" | CG Pasadena Memorial | 2024 State TX -6’0 CG remains my #1 for a number of reasons other than her ability to play all 5 positions so versatility as well as upside will keep her there while Justice Carlton Justice Carlton 6'1" | PF Seven Lakes | 2024 State TX -6’1 PF remains at the #2 position, however, musical chairs could rearrange the remaining 18 spots asI see more players and watch their progression but here are those that moved up in the Top 20
#9 Vivian Iwuchukwu-6’3 PF (SA Cole HS) Player First
(Up from #12)
Iwuchuku was so impressive when I first saw her last season, I can’t add how pleased I am with her progression as she is controlling games from both ends, she’s blocking shots and handling the ball the length of the court to score but she’s also scoring facing the basket better. Yeah she punishes in the paint but seeing her add more is very nice
#10 Mariah Houston Mariah Houston 5'7" | CG Tom Glenn | 2024 State TX -5’7 CG (Tom Glenn HS)
(Up from #18)
Houston was at an Individual Showcase my girl Radio had me cover and watching Houston had me scratching my head on how I missed her yet after looking at the roster, I realized I hadn’t so even when I’m wrong I’m right, but let me write this, she’s one of the most explosive scoring guards in Texas, all classes yet she still has upside but the mid to long and off the dribble is a mix that is hard to stop
#11 Londyn Oliphant Londyn Oliphant 5'6" | PG Sachse | 2024 State TX -5’8 PG (Sasche HS) Platinum Basketball Walker
(Up from #16)
Oliphant has always stressed she wants to get better and her #THROWBACK mindset is part of what drives her and also drivers defenders crazy because she’s hard to stay in front of with a variety of moves, yet her ability to see the floor while going full speed isn’t a joke. Yes, she can run a team and control the tempo but she also can score mid to long-range as well as defend
#13 Rian Forestier Rian Forestier 5'11" | SG Brandeis | 2024 State TX -5’11 (Brandeis HS) Player First
(Up from #19)
Forestier and her poise, smh, as far back as I can remember I knew this kid would be special but her desire to consistently get better just shows. The long-range has always been there, she’s also long., extends on the jumper and uses her athleticism to mix it up to not be one dimensional yet her threes are sometimes from another dimension as she is one of the best “hand in her face’ shooters in the state
#14 Paris Bradley Paris Bradley 5'10" | SF Hebron | 2024 State TX -5’10 SF (Hebron HS) Cy Fair 16U EYBL
(Up from #35)
Bradley may not be related to Milton yet you do not want to play with her game as she’s becoming more solid and fluid based on the short views I’ve caught but her upside, as well as IQ, are among the things no one can teach
#20 Zachara Perkins Zachara Perkins 6'3" | SF Summer Creek | 2024 State TX -6’1 PG (St Pius HS) Drive Nation 17U EYBL
Perkins has excelled at the fresh start as well as her growth spurt so coming off a stellar freshman season, she’s showing she can compete on that PLATFORM and that’s no surprise to me because her skill set is catching up with her high BB-IQ and when the product is finished, it ain’t no telling how high she’ll be
