At the Insider Exposure Summer Slam event, the 17U Platinum game will go down as one to remember . Two teams, hungry for a championship, fought tooth and nail for 32 minutes. EAB Tennessee vs. Team Loaded out of VA, put on a show for all in attendance. Let me just say, they didn’t disappoint.
This game was well coached, well-played, girls going back and forth trading buckets. Coaches putting on their technician hats to will their teams to winning that possession . The girls had the energy, hyped up, giving high-fives and daps after ever score. The crowd was live, cheering for their squads, but also booing the refs. College coaches saw the scrappiness in the girls, the fight in the girls, the dawg that must exist to take the crown. This game was about two clubs who were 3-0, looking to make a name for themselves and get on the radar of college coaches.
From opening tip, this game was about defense. Prior to this championship game , both squads had put up huge numbers knocking off their opponents in the semis, but this game, this was a 7 round bout. Team Loaded led by Jennifer Levine out of Staunton River HS, is one of the craftiest lefties in the business. She has that “IT” factor, which her teammates gravitates towards. She’s like the female James Harden package with all the step back moves and long range 3s. EAB Tennessee, a collection of shifty players with passion, was ready to unleash their team attack.
Buckets were traded back and forth. Thread the needle passes, long range 3s, mid-range floaters, And1s, you name it. This game was filled with electric plays that kept the crowd on their feet. At the half, the score was 19-19. What went on in the second half, was a scoring burst. Both teams went tick for tack matching each other’s shots. The game got tighter slowed, down just a bit, but became a nail biter. With 18 seconds and down by 2, Team Loaded created a crucial turnover that led to a tough bucket that took the lead. With 8 seconds to go, EAB had one time out. Coach Jaffarious Wade drew up a play that no one saw coming. Stacked on the sideline, the girls broke at the sounds of the ball slap, and the ball went into the hands of Sierra Kemelgor out of South Oldham HS in KY. She drove to the lane, unleashing a bevy of crossover and counter moves. As she approached the free throw line, she unleashed a floated that bounced twice before going in. Game over! EAB 49-Team Loaded 48. The crowd went wild, running onto the floor jumping along with the team. It was a great finish between two great teams who put on a show for all to see.
