The Ohio Summer Showcase had around 300 players participate in a full day of basketball at the College of Wooster, including several incoming 2022 seniors who look to catch that one last look from one of the 50 college coaches in attendance on the day.
Prep Girls Hoops continues their series from this event with stories from Angie Saiter, yours truly and stories from the staff focusing on some of the top players we saw during the day. My 2022 two-part series starts today with a look at some outstanding players.
Class of 2022 Standouts- Part 1
[player_tooltip player_id="269379" first="Ajia" last="Schreffler"], 5-10 F, New Philadelphia
Impressive multidimensional player who can hurt you in different ways. Ajia does a nice job playing strong in the paint with a soft touch around the rim. She has good hands, able to catch anything to her and become a factor around the rim. Another strength she has is her ability to run the floor and be effective in transition. This Eastern Ohio senior looks to have a big final year with NP.
Braylynn Haines, 5-10 F, Fairfield Local
She also does a nice job with her interior game at the rim, showing a good finish at the rim as she gets good position to score. She moves well on the break, able to capitalize on the fast break chances for her team. Defensively, she is skilled enough to guard different positions effectively and showed some good athleticism on the court.
[player_tooltip player_id="212896" first="Carly" last="Maple"], 5-8 G, Sylvania Northview
I love this kids game and her motor. Gets to where she can be most effective and shows a lot of intensity. Able to beat you both inside or out, she has good range from behind the arc. Carly (pictured left) can slide down low and finish well at the rim. Good transition player, able to capitalize on her athletic ability to create shots for herself or her team. Reads the play well on defense, can guard 1-3 positions.
[player_tooltip player_id="32604" first="Madelyn" last="Fearon"], 5-6 G, Arcanum
One of the top guards in the Dayton area, Madelyn (pictured right) has really polished her skills up into a very productive guard. Solid handles and a very good passer, she can see the floor well and lead the break with the outlet. Very smart basketball IQ, can take what the defense gives her. Able to get to the rim and score or distribute, or can let it fly from behind the arc.
Breann Reaman, 5-8 G, Anna
One thing she showed me right away is her ability to score from the perimeter. She has a good shot and can score from deep range. She also has good handles and shows good consistency when it comes to her play. She comes from a system that takes pride in their defense, and she fits right in. Can defend on-ball and has active hands. I think she is an underrated player who should open some eyes this season. (feature photo above)
