Over 300 total players were in attendance at the <strong>Ohio Summer Showcase </strong>and the important 2023 class was highlighted by some very solid players. Here is the first of two stories where i will take a look at the incoming juniors.
<strong><span style="font-size: 18pt; font-family: 'comic sans ms', sans-serif;">Class of 2023 Standouts- Part 1</span></strong>
<span style="font-family: 'arial black', sans-serif;"><strong><span style="font-size: 14pt;">[player_tooltip player_id="270506" first="Lily" last="Bottomley"], 6-2 P, Northwest</span></strong></span>
A post player that can control things in the paint both offensively and defensively. She showed good footwork around the rim and was able to catch and score in the paint. Possesses a soft touch at close range, does a good job securing the rebound. Defensively, does a solid job altering shots and can lead the break with the outlet.
<span style="font-family: 'arial black', sans-serif;"><strong><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Emma Malikowski, 5-6 G, Cloverleaf</span></strong></span>
Showed very good potential to be a game changer with her ability to run the show. From the guard spot, she was exceptional in the transition game, able to fill the lanes in an up tempo north-south game. Can push the pass to her teammate with good court vision and good court awareness. Hoping for a big junior season ahead.
<span style="font-family: 'arial black', sans-serif;"><strong><span style="font-size: 14pt;">[player_tooltip player_id='313119' first='Emily' last='Koenig'], 5-7 F, Norwalk</span></strong></span>
One of the top juniors I saw on Sunday with a good complete game, she is able to handle the ball under pressure. Able to match up with anyone on the floor and her court vision makes her hard to guard. She was able to penetrate and get to the rim where she possessed good footwork and can finish at the rim.
<span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'arial black', sans-serif;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='465267' first='Reegan' last='Hayward'], 5-8 G, Findlay</strong></span>
She comes over from Northwest Ohio and displayed strong qualities of a good guard including a solid basketball IQ. She has a good nose for the ball, plays with intensity and anticipates the play well. Solid handles and able to make the pass to her open teammate. Her court vision is solid and she is scrappy on the defensive end of the floor.
<span style="font-family: 'arial black', sans-serif;"><strong><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Kennedy Deppen, 5-11 F, South Central</span></strong></span>
Can hurt you in multiple ways. She has a solid floor game with the ability to get by her defender with good moves and score at the rim. Good hands, able to finish well against contact. Also can step out and score from the perimeter. Defensively Kennedy is able to defend and is a tough matchup.
