It is especially fun, considering the 3 on 3 format provides a high amount of games each night for over 80 HS and College teams. This year’s tournament was won by Massillon Perry – as the host team defeated the #1 overall seed, Massillon Jackson in the championship game.
Here are some of the standouts from the 2021 version of the league:
Meredith Randulic Meredith Randulic 5'9" | SG Perry | 2022 State OH – Class of 2022 – Perry
Randulic (pictured with her Perry teammates) showed why many basketball fans think that she is one of Northeast Ohio’s top guards, regardless of class. She displayed an elite ability to find teammates for open shots – using her length and superb handles to create space and cause major issues for the defense – while leading her Perry team to perfect 8-0 bracket-play record on their way to the championship.
Emma Dretke Emma Dretke 5'9" | CG Jackson | 2022 State OH – Class of 2022 – Massillon Jackson
Dretke may have been the league’s most dominant player from start-to-finish. It’s extremely rare to see her miss 2 shots in a row from the perimeter – where she is extremely deadly. Emma also showed the ability to score on the block with both hands – using a variety of finishing moves. She rebounded at a high level, as well. The Walsh commit has an outstanding team at Jackson to work with for her last hurrah – it will be interesting to see what the Polar Bears can do this winter.
Corri Vermilya Corri Vermilya 5'8" | SG Loudonville | 2024 State OH – Class of 2024 – Loudonville
One of the state’s top players in the Class of 2024 – Vermilya scored at will off of the dribble throughout the entirety of the league. She covers so much ground with her dribble and is a true leaper at the rim – finishing on the strong-side and with a steady dose of reverses. It’s tough to stop Corri, because she has added a much improved 3-point jump shot – with range well behind the 3-point line, as well as a steady dose of put-backs from constantly crashing the offensive glass.
Sophia Niese Sophia Niese 5'6" | CG Shelby | 2022 State OH – Class of 2022 – Shelby
Niese looked lightning-quick, while leading her short-handed Shelby team to the tournament’s final 3. She got into the paint at will and displayed a calming influence for her younger teammates – confident and always in control. Sophia got a number of 50-50 balls that helped her team pull out close games down the stretch – a trait that everyone appreciates.
Sarah Seaman – Class of 2022 – James A Garfield
After a season where Sarah knocked-down a school record of 3-point attempts – she continued her sharpshooting during the NEO/NWO 3 on 3 League. Seaman plays at a slower pace than most guards in today’s game – at times, she lulls the defender to sleep, before she gets off a shot with her quick release – making far more than she misses. Sarah is also an elite passer – needing only a little bit of daylight to find her teammates in pick-and-roll situations.
