Its Summer Showcase recently concluded in North Augusta with high school teams from all over the Palmetto State converging on the CSRA for two days of basketball. There was also an SCBCA Elite Camp in Rock Hill a week and a half ago.
We at Prep Girls Hoops were at that camp and were also at this one – and noticed that the class of 2022 was well-represented. Here is a look at a few more from said class.
Shar’dasia Zeigler Shar’dasia Zeigler 5'5" | CG Orangeburg-Wilkinson | 2022 State SC – Orangeburg-Wilkinson HS – Last season, the Bruins had a banner year as Orangeburg-Wilkinson advanced to the 3A Lower State final. Zeigler, who will be entering her senior season was a major reason for Orangeburg-Wilkinson’s success last season. One of the quintessential floor generals across the state, she will improve a team’s offensive output with her 3-point shooting as well as her ability to attack the rim and either convert a layup or draw a foul. Zeigler can get creative with how she passes the ball but it is hard to stop her as she plays at a high speed. She knows how to make tough shots and stays active on defense.
Zeigler has already given a early pledge to South Carolina State University.
Asia Graves Asia Graves 5'4" | PG Orangeburg-Wilkinson | 2022 State SC – Orangeburg-Wilkinson HS – Between Zeigler and Graves, among others, Bruins coach Cedrick Simpson has one noteworthy class of 2022 that will be graduating once next season is complete. Graves possesses a long-range jumper and will effectively run point as well. She too is a proficient passer in addition to her playing hard on defense, always being a threat to get opponents to turn over the ball. Graves knows how to get out in transition along with giving the Bruins additional scoring help. Facing teams such as Orangeburg-Wilkinson is dangerous in itself and this will even be more so the case given its graduating senior class plus its 3A championship aspirations.
Ariana Wilkes Ariana Wilkes 6'2" | C Spring Valley | 2022 State SC – Spring Valley HS – Wilkes works. At 6-foot-2, she is currently the tallest player on coach Megan Assey’s Vikings team. Whenever someone plays Spring Valley, teams have to game plan for how they plan to attack the basket with No. 14 waiting nearby. Wilkes will get her fair share of shot blocks, but she will run out to the perimeter and try to prevent 3-pointers from being made. She too will try treys on the offensive end of the floor and can haul in rebounds. Wilkes gives Spring Valley a scoring dimension near the rim that can be difficult for teams to guard against.
Wilkes transferred back to Spring Valley HS after playing last season at Cardinal Newman.
Zakiyah Moss Zakiyah Moss 5'8" | SG JL Mann | 2022 State SC – J.L. Mann HS – Moss will make plays near the rim and is very quick and agile with the ball in her hands. She makes changing directions while dribbling through a slew of defenders seem effortless. Moss will also shoot the 3-pointer and on occasion she may draw contact from a defender to put her at the line for three freebie tries. Zakiyah played last season at nearby Hillcrest HS (Simpsonville).
Jakaiya Mack Jakaiya Mack 5'9" | PG JL Mann | 2022 State SC – J.L. Mann HS – The Patriots stack up well against their competition with Mack. She too is a 5-foot-9 guard as is her teammate Moss. Mack will set up her team in the half court offense and goes strong to the basket. She excels in the full court and transition game with her ability to make efficient passes and can lead the charge in transition. Mack makes things difficult for opposing ball handlers on defense and is constantly aware of where she is on the court at all times, making her a consistent threat to increase her steal totals. Her offensive attributes include the 3-point shot.
