Team Final is the newest AAU program that came onto our radar, a mixture of talent from New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware.
We’ll be focusing on the players from the Garden State as we continue our AAU tour, and instead of starting at one end of the team spectrum, we’re starting right in the middle with a look at the 16U squad.
Let’s take a closer look at these New Jersey prospects to see what makes them stand out and why you should watch out for them this coming fall.
We start at Williamstown with a player who really burst onto the scene and broke out in her sophomore year, rising junior Ava Eberly, a 5-9 shooting guard who turned into one of the best pure shooters and pure scorers in the Tri-County Conference.
She led the Lady Braves in scoring and three-point shooting in the spring, and she continued to show off her sharp shooting over the summer, really coming along as an elite scorer. She’s developed her playmaking ability and spreads the floor well as a shooter.
We saw some fantastic off-ball movement from Eberly and most importantly, an increased court awareness, especially in the paint as she’s used her height significantly more to crash the boards.
Alongside Eberly is another Tri-County Conference player, rising junior Jakya Jenkins, a 5-6 shooting guard from Glassboro who made some strides this spring, which has carried over in a big way into the summer.
Jenkins has become a much more aggressive player overall, and is very active in the paint as well as the midrange game. She hasn’t shown a reliance on perimeter shooting, so continue to expect her to dominate opponents in the lane.
What she has really excelled on this summer is her perimeter defense, which is just fantastic to watch. She looks confident in 1-on-1 situations and doesn’t get backed down easily, which is a great sign going into the fall.
The last player we’ll touch upon in this article is rising sophomore Samantha Jones, a 5-5 shooting guard from Vineland who had a fantastic freshman season in the spring.
Jones showcased a great ability to score, rebound with Vineland, but above all, she showcased fantastic defense that she’s improved upon in a big way this summer. We’ve seen a greater attention to detail with more side-to-side movement and more overall agility.
She’s become more and more aggressive on the floor, which is going to help her in a big way once the high school season rolls around.
We’re far from done on the AAU scene, so continue to follow Prep Girls Hoops New Jersey for more this summer.
