July is here and the travel season is in full effect. Here are the top players in the classes of 2022, and 2023 that I have seen.
Class of 2022
Janiah Barker Janiah Barker 6'2" | SF Montverde Academy | 2022 State #3 Nation FL (Montverde Academy / Essence) 6’4
Barker is simply special – no other way to put it. She is 6’4 and can play inside as a 4/5 and can play from the perimeter as a guard/wing. She is long! She is athletic! She is versatile! And she is one of the nation’s top prospects and coveted by the who’s who of college coaches all across the country. For Essence, she is their marquee player and does a little bit of everything. They post her up in isolation situations on the low block. They flash her to the high post and let her rip and attack the rim as well as knock down the elbow jumper if the defense gives her space. She is most impressive when grabbing a defensive rebound and starting the break, attacking the basket in the open floor!
Amiya Evans Amiya Evans 6'2" | PF DME Academy | 2022 State FL (Tampa Bay Tech / Miami Suns) 6’2 Forward
Amiya Evans Amiya Evans 6'2" | PF DME Academy | 2022 State FL is big, strong, skilled, and aggressive. She does a great job of going inside and out showcasing her ability to play at both the low and high post. What I like about Evans the most is her strong lower base that is near impossible to move out of the paint. In an era where all post players want to play on the perimeter, Evans is not afraid to mix it up down low and has the combination of mass, strength, and height that make her an extremely effective low post player on both the offensive and defensive end. With that being said, she has worked and developed her perimeter game on the offensive end and has ability to knock down the 3 as a trail post as well as play face up from the high post and short corner.
Stefanie Ingram Stefanie Ingram 5'7" | CG Lake Highland | 2022 State FL (Lake Highland Prep / Hoop Dreams Elite) 5’7 Guard
Ingram is fun to watch because she plays hard and is strong! Ingram plays both guard spots and doesn’t have one skill that she is excellent at but her overall body of work make her an extremely effective player who energy and passion are contagious making her a favorite of both her teammates and fans alike. Her build and her strength are one of her biggest assets as she uses them to her advantage on both ends of the floor. Offensively, she attacks the basket, taking contact while attacking the rim off the dribble and at the basket while finishing and can take the opponents contact and score, often while getting fouled. Defensively, she is an aggressive on ball defender who gets in the opposing teams primary ball handlers personal space and often disrupts their ability to run an offensive set. She is an early verbal commit, headed to UCF next year and is a perfect fit for Coach Abe’s style of play and look for her to be just as effective at the collegiate level as she is on the travel scene.
Sydney Shaw Sydney Shaw 5'9" | SG DME Academy | 2022 State FL (American Heritage / Miami Suns) 5’10 Guard
Shaw is one of the nation’s most elite scorers and has been putting that on display all throughout the spring/summer reminding opposing coaches and players why she is one the top prospects and coveted by a number of collegiate programs. Shaw can score at multiple levels: from 3, off the dribble, and at the rim. She has multiple moves off the dribble with counter moves to each primary move. She can knock down the 3 off dribble as well as off the pass. My favorite part of Shaw’s game is when she has the ball in her hands and is attacking off the dribble in 1on1 situations. She does a great job taking what the defense gives her, changing speeds, and creating space. Her in and out and crossover combinations are dangerous, and her step back is even more impressive. Shaw has been on the scene since 8th grade and it is obvious that she is going to go out with a bang in her final season with Miami Suns Team Fowles!
Class of 2023
Alancia Ramsey Alancia Ramsey 6'0" | PF St Thomas Aquinas | 2023 State FL (American Heritage Delray / Essence) 6’1
Ramsey takes the game back old school using her size, strength, and mass to mix it up down low. She is a high energy player who plays with a ton of passion and gets after it on both ends of the floor. Her strongest attribute is how hard she plays both offensively and defensively, never taking a play off. She is consistently on the offensive boards and does a great job keeping plays alive by constantly keeping balls alive. Ramsey is one of the players that you love to coach and have on your team and hate to play against!
Emma Risch Emma Risch 6'2" | PG Palm Bay | 2023 State #23 Nation FL (Palm Bay Magnet / East Coast United) 6’2
Risch is one of the nation’s top prospects nationally and it doesn’t take long to figure out why after watching her play just a few minutes on the court. She started the 2021 travel season with the newly formed Candice Dupree squad which was a merger of Tampa Thunder and East Coast United but returned back to East Coast United with her teammates. Most 6’2 players and post players, occupying the low block and paint but Risch is running the point guard position picking apart opposing defenses and knocking down 3s! College coaches from the ACC, SEC, Big 10, and Big 12 are all coveting her services because 6’2 point guards are few and far in between and Risch height, court vision, and scoring ability are all elite.
