With our 2022 player rankings update being released this week, now is as good a time as ever to talk about some players whose stocks have risen.
Not all these players will be making our list, but don’t be surprised if you see them in future updates as we do have more coming up.
Now, we return to South Jersey to talk about some more players who are stock risers after the summer.
Our first player is one who should be a big threat in the Burlington County Scholastic League, forward Kiersten Kennedy of Delran, one of two main impact players to watch out for on that team alongside Riley Ahrens.
Kennedy has a lot of potential to post double-double averages this season after a strong junior campaign, and where she shined most was her defense, a combination of incredible shot-blocking and strong interior presence.
If Delran wants to compete in the BSCL, Kennedy is the key cog on this roster that has to provide leadership and a veteran mindset/play style in the fall. Considering what we’ve seen from her so far, expect much of the same to happen.
A player who has definitely gone under-the-radar is forward Olivia Magee of West Deptford, but she’s someone who is now the go-to scorer on this team with the graduation of Zaniyah Carr.
Most importantly, Magee fills in the gap in the middle that Carr would’ve left had there not been someone there behind her. Her production is going to sharply rise and even assuming more attention will be put on her on the floor, she’s strong and physical enough to power through that.
What’s going to be the most important thing for Magee is to establish her paint presence early and often this season. If she’s able to dominate the middle quickly into a game, it’s going to turn into a nightmare situation for opponents.
The last player we’ll be discussing in this article is guard/forward Jackie Fortis of Absegami, who’s a two-sport star with both basketball and volleyball.
She’s taken that explosive energy from volleyball onto the basketball court in a big way and with Haleight Schafer having graduated in the spring, Fortis is one of two main incoming seniors to feature on Absegami’s team this season.
Fortis is a balanced player, but is a great defender, shot-blocker and passer as we saw during the 2021 season. We should expect to see more perimeter shooting from her as well as she’s already proven to have a quick release and smooth shot.
Only time will tell with her as to what we’ll see this upcoming fall.
