As the conferences are discussed it is pertinent to look at which players will have the biggest say in how the conference will turn out. Today we discuss the Big East conference and the players to watch for within the conference this coming season in its north division.
Chloe Vogel Chloe Vogel 5'8" | CG St Mary Catholic | 2023 State WI ’23 – St. Mary Catholic – Following a very fruitful sophomore season this 5’8 guard has a lot to build on. Last season she scored well on average with 17 points and rebounded well for her size, pulling down six boards a game. With her ability to rebound as a guard there’s an up-tempo game she could really contribute to. This season will be one where she looks to take over this conference in hopes of taking her team to the top of the Big East-North and beyond.
Laney Halbach ’22 – Hilbert – A four-year varsity player who has gotten better every season is poised to finish her high school career on a high note. Last season was a massive improvement on the 5-14 conference record in 2018-19, even at just 6-6. A player like Halbach, who will be at her very best all of this season, could surprise a few teams and impact how this conference shapes up during the season. It would also be a very positive turnaround for where Hilbert was as a program just a few years ago and sending out a 1.000 point scorer on a high note would be a great story, considering how productive she has been.
Meghan Propson ’22 – Hilbert – Another massive part of a turnaround at Hilbert is Meghan Propson. Over the past season, this player has become very interesting in her conference because on her day she can flat out score. Her issue has been that she just doesn’t have the consistency of other top scorers. She has two sets of back-to-back games that describe it perfectly where she scored 26 and 24 respectively in two games and each of those games was followed up with a 5 point performance. That being said if she figures it out and begins to find a consistent scoring rhythm she has the ability to absolutely help her team challenge the best teams in the conference.
Kat Miller ’23 – Elkhart Lake-Glenbeluh – After two very similar seasons this guard has done a lot of scoring on a team that hasn’t had a lot of success the last two seasons. Coming into her junior season with a lot of experience her team will look to her to take a leap in order to help her team begin to take a jump in the conference. She has done the bulk of the scoring for her team even as a freshman, so if this team is going to take a leap she will need to continue to do what she has been doing along with getting the best out of e teammates. Even with the lack of success of the team she has been a consistently gifted scorer and will be a fun watch.
