2022
Trinity Bane-6’1 PF/C (Valley Rebels Elite) PSJA North High School
Bane is “long and athletic” that’s the base and she’s over “the magic number” which is 6’0, and when combined, with any type of ability, the next level is usually a lock. She rebounds, on both ends, finishes strongly on putbacks as well as off the dribble attacking yet she also did a good job of finishing after contact and her timing wasn’t bad as she blocked shots
Melissa Hornedo-5’2 PG (San Antonio Unite Black 2022) Antonia Preparatory School
Hornedo is one of those players who are #THROWBACK because she’s a heady PG who doesn’t get flustered with the press or traps and understands how to control the tempo and who to get the ball to and when to do it yet she also can score either attacking the rim or dropping the mid to long-range jumper and she defends
Charlize Cosmas-6’1 PF/C (San Antonio Unite Black 2022) Clark HS
Cosmas gets the #THROWBACK as well because she #BATTLES for everything off the rim and by not standing in one spot to go after the ball wherever it comes off is definitely a lost art yet that also applies to loose balls. She did a good job on the interior defending, even stepped outside the paint, and did it
Vivia Vella-5’9 SG/SF (San Antonio Unite Black 2022) Harlan HS
Vella took defenders off the dribble with ease and seeing her glide to the rim was nice because she did smoothly but she also showed she could score “in the flow” and do a variety of things that don’t show up on score or stat sheets like setting solid picks that led to baskets or understand when to switch or how to trap
2023
Emma Lucio-5’10 SG/SF (Valley Rebels Elite) PSJA North High School
Lucio showed she could drop the long ball, some seemed like they were coming from the Valley yet she creates her shot so well and that, combined with her size, let me add the “long and athletic” plug and always remember “college coaches love big guards that can shoot” and she can do that very well but her ability to “catch and shoot” will get her added to next update
Madison Lumsden-5’8 PG/SG (True Texas Hoops Crabtree) Argyle HS
Lumsden plays the combo well, yeah she sees the floor and handles the ball under pressure, and understands how to create her shot which enables her to attack and finish off the dribble or attack and dish with ease but she also did a good job of controlling the tempo and understanding when to push it
Torie Sevier-6’4 C (True Texas Hoops Crabtree) Denton Braswell HS
Sevier is rolling with 76 inches and she does a good job of making the offensive player think about attacking the rim. When arms are extended, well second-guessing comes with territory yet she covers a lot of territory moving around the paint on defense, she rebounds well and scored off both putbacks and solid moves around the basket
2024
Lola Mallard- 5’7 PG/SG (Valley Rebels Elite) PSJA North High School
Mallard did not duck away from the challenge, see how I did that, #ThereIsNoMe yet she goes very hard on the defensive end, applying “on the ball” pressure baseline to baseline and showed good hands as well as used her athleticism to , drumroll please, play the passing lane
