Eight 2022 Players To Watch
By Michael Wholey 8/16/21 2:00 PM EST
With the 2021 travel season concluded and the 2021-22 school year started, the class of 2022 has been busy. Many have taken the opportunity to visit college campuses, participate in college elite camps, and played a number of games on the travel ball circuit. Here are eight players in the class of 2022 that college coaches should be watching.

Blue is an athletic, skilled guard with long arms and a solid body. She has a good offensive skill set and a smooth jumper with good form. She is more of a combo guard then a point guard. She is at her best in transition with the ball in her hands.
[player_tooltip player_id="154842" first="Mia" last="Avin"] (Archbishop McCarthy / Team Knight) 5’6 Guard
Avin is a strong, combo guard who can play both the one and two positions. She has a high basketball IQ and does a good job attacking the basket from the wing. She does a good job using her body when getting into the paint, using her strength and shoulders to finish versus contact.

[player_tooltip player_id="91600" first="Marissa" last="Brown"] (Fort Walton Beach / Essence) 6’0 Wing
Brown is a big guard who is a consistent double-digit scorer. She has a strong build and a solid lower base foundation. She can knock it down from 3 and can take contact and finish at the rim. She averaged 10 points a game for Fort Walton Beach last year as a Junior and she played well this summer with Essence. She can be a contributor on the perimeter for a college program in the right system.
[player_tooltip player_id="91567" first="Olivia" last="Delancy"] (Carrollwood Day School / Hoop Dreams Elite) 5’10 Wing
[player_tooltip player_id="91567" first="Olivia" last="Delancy"] is a strong wing / forward who has a quick release and has a really strong lower base in her shooting form with a wide stance and deep 3-point range. Delancy can finish with either hand, with a soft-touch around the rim. Delancy performed well for Hoop Dreams Elite on the Adidas circuit and is a stock riser. She has a strong overall game and is versatile as a scorer, rebounder, and slasher.
[player_tooltip player_id="91581" first="Jaela" last="Davis"] (Brooks DeBartola / Tampa Thunder) 5’7 Guard
Davis is an efficient perimeter player who shoots a high percentage from the field. She is a well-rounded player who fills up the stat sheet across multiple stat lines (points, rebounds, steals, assists). She’s a solid shooter who has tremendous speed and is crafty around the rim. Don’t sleep on her defense either as she’s always getting in the face of opposing players. Check out some highlights from this past July.

Joey is a strong, versatile guard/wing that can play multiple perimeter positions. She is a skilled player who has excellent court vision and a high basketball IQ. She can handle the ball, shoot the 3 and is a good passer who gives the ball up to open teammates freely. She finishes well at the rim with both her left and right hands and her build allows her to take contact and still finish often getting opportunities to complete 3-point plays.
[player_tooltip player_id="219954" first="Fatima" last="Diakhate"] (Montverde Academy / Essence) 6’6 Center
At 6’6, Diakhate is the state’s tallest prospect and is an extremely intriguing college prospect. Most high level BCS teams have a player 6’4 or above that controls the paint and impacts the game as a shot blocker and rebounder. We have seen her progress since 7th grade and she has made tremendous strides with improved mobility, strength and skill development. Her ranking is still based on potential vs production at this point as to whether she will continue to improve and what she could potentially develop into as a college player by her junior season under a solid strength and conditioning program and a good post coach.
[player_tooltip player_id="91580" first="Riana" last="Doctor"] (Gulliver Prep / Miami Suns) 5’11 Wing / Forward
It was great to see Doctor back on the court healthy. The athletic wing can play inside and out. She is a high percentage shooter from 15-feet, is a serviceable rebounder and can finish around the rim. While comfortable on the perimeter, her mid-range game and her flashing to the high post is where she is most effective.
