Continue ReadingJuly was a very busy month for me but I had a chance to see some talented players I hadn’t either enough of or for the very first time. I know I had seen Marissa Seaton at last season’s Alamo City Hoops Girls Elite Combine last year in San Antonio however, this was a different setting, and as good as she was then, well just read
Martie McCoy-5’11 PF (Texas Platinum Bruce/Bartlett) Aubrey HS (2022)
McCoy showed she was definitely REAL as she set the defender up countless times to take off the dribble and score, after contact but she also used her size around the basket, scoring on the turnaround jumpers as well as hitting the pull-up but her rebounding, on both ends and scoring off of putbacks strongly was definitely a huge plus
Marissa Seaton-5’9 PG (SA Hoops Elite Kearney) Brandeis HS (2022)
Seaton is heady, strong off the dribble yet her passes are crisp and on the money, either in transition, the set or off the dribble but her ability to control the tempo was nice yet she also could flip it when she was at the 2 and let me go back to the “off the dribble” and “strong” because she finished that way, after contact so when you add she dropped the mid to long-range with ease…
Katy Piper-5’11 SG (Lone Star Magic 17U) Holliday HS (2023)
Piper plays for a guy who was around before me and one of the best X & O guys that truly knows the game and puts his players in positions to be successful and I’m a little upset at myself for not seeing Piper, I mean she’s 5’11 and BATTLES for everything off the rim, #THROWBACK always grabs me yet she can create her show and drop the long ball consistently and she falls into a couple of very important profiles, she’s just under “the magic number’ which is 6’0 and “college coaches love big guards that can shoot” she can shoot!
Mya Wilson-5’9 PG (Texas Platinum 16U Walker) Stephenville HS (2023)
Wilson is heady, plays within her self meaning she doesn’t force anything, and stays under control so combine that with seeing the floor ad making the right passes to the right people, that’s all pretty nice but she can also score and creating her shot under pressure and using a deceptive first step allowed her to get to the rim numerous times for baskets yet she has the good body control and when she dropped reverse lay-ups using either hand from both sides, that did it
Alexis Price-5’9 PG (Houston Skyrise 16U Gold) Lovelady HS (2025)
Price is going to be Right on this young lady, with the emphasis on YOUNG as she played up yet took me away with some of the things she showed like creating her shot against older, stronger, sometimes faster players, yet it didn’t faze her as many have to go through phases to adjust, she handled it nicely yet that pull-up jumper was solid and I can’t wait to see the progression
