In this article, we’ll be discussing the top three players in our updated rankings.
Zoe Brooks Zoe Brooks 5'8" | CG St. John Vianney | 2023 State NJ – 5-8 CG, Trenton Catholic
Brooks was named our top prospect in the state of New Jersey for good reason as she’s one of the best guards in the country, not just New Jersey. She shined for TCA during the spring and has been an electrifying player for Philly Rise’s 17U team along with another player in our top three.
Also, she was named a finalist this summer to make Team USA’s 16U roster, one of just an handful of players across the country to get the invitation and make it that far through the process.
Brooks is dominant, with a great dribble drive into the lane, a fantastic shot and spectacular defense. She’s a proven playmaker and game-changer, and she’s going to have an absolutely monster season for TCA this fall.
Hannah Hidalgo Hannah Hidalgo 5'7" | PG Paul VI | 2023 State NJ – 5-6 PG, Paul VI
Hidalgo is Brooks’ AAU teammate at Philly Rise and she’s been playing at a high-caliber level very comparable to Brooks at TCA. The two faced off this season when Paul VI went up to Trenton, but the Iron Mikes defeated the Eagles.
Besides the meeting and connection with Brooks, Hidalgo is making a big name for herself across the country, earning some big time collegiate offers from places like Maryland, Texas, North Carolina and Florida State to name a few.
She’s the best player in South Jersey without a question and looked absolutely unstoppable in the spring, her best games coming against rival Cherokee, who was the best in the region before last season with Paul VI sweeping their two-game season series.
Rylie Theuerkauf Rylie Theuerkauf 5'7" | SG Tenafly | 2023 State NJ – 5-7 SG, Tenafly
Theuerkauf dominated her way into the top three of PGH NJ’s 2023 prospect rankings as she put up some incredible numbers in the spring. She led the state in scoring by a wide margin, averaging 36.4 PPG, including a career-high 48 points in the season opener and six 40-point games on the season.
To put her season in perspective, she scored 21 more points than during the 2019-20 season…in nine less games. No player was truly as dominant offensively as Theuerkauf last season and coming into this season, the pressure is on to match her sophomore year.
It was one that in a full season would have broken state records and could have nearly been an 1,000 point season itself, but we will see if she can achieve similar success in her junior year.
We’ll be putting out more content about this current rankings update as the month of August ends and the month of September begins.
