Prospect Film Room: Madison/Southwest Region, Underclassmen
Due to the overflow of players sending in their film from the Madison/Southwest region they are split into two separate articles. These are the underclassmen of the region who sent in their film along with takeaways from that film. These players are the future of the region and may begin to make their name as early as this coming season if they haven’t already.
Ava Bradenburg ’24- Evansville High School – It’s hard to nail down a specific position for her because she really does a little bit of everything at 5’10. She played in the middle of her team’s zone offense using some quick post stuff, she can create off the bounce for herself and others, she is a high-level shooter both off the dribble and spotting up, she just is the definition of “positionless”. The same of her offensive game applies to her defensively as well she is quick enough to switch onto opposing and strong enough to handle opposing post players in the paint. She also is very young as this coming year will be her sophomore year and it will be interesting to see where she improves as time goes on.
Rylan Oberg Rylan Oberg 5'7" | CG DeForest | 2024 State WI ’24 – Deforest – This 5’7 guard made her mark during her freshman campaign showing a little bit of everything on the offensive side of the floor for Deforest. She was a solid scorer as a freshman and showed a good bit of creation for her age as well. She is equally solid taking the ball to the lane with her right or left, and the same goes for her ability to finish around the rim. As for her jump shot, it is just like the rest of her game, smooth. She also posses a poise with the ball in her hand that allows her to stay calm through pressure and make the right play at the end of it. Just now entering her sophomore season she has a lot of time left to develop, all told so far so good for her.
Lyric Burns Lyric Burns 5'10" | PF Verona | 2024 WI ’24 – Verona High School – A young 5’11 forward brings what a lot of people don’t have, a traditional big who can do a variety of things on the block. She brings size and strength along with a past of being a good big to big passer on the block, something that is getting rarer and rarer as time goes by. she appears to have a good touch when it comes to her free throws which is a sign that maybe in the future she can stretch her game out behind the three-point line, but if she continues to be able to just push opposing bigs around on the low block that might be her future in basketball.
Reagan Briggs Reagan Briggs 5'9" | SG Verona | 2024 State WI ’24 – Verona High School – A very fleet of foot 5’9 guard with a very traditional off-ball guard style of play. She uses her speed to her advantage in more ways than just on the break, which she does, she also is very quick changing directions in small spaces which helps her blow by defenders. She also has a very sturdy jumper that is the same every time and everything looks good mechanically aside from the release being a touch low, but all told unless there are heavy closeouts at 5’9 she should be ok getting it off whenever she wants.
Kiersten Hoel ’25 – Marshall High School – This is a very young prospect who is just entering high school, even though she is only going into her freshman year the 5’7 guard has a real talent when it comes to being able to flat out score from anywhere. She has the ability to set her feet quickly and get spot-up threes out of her hands quickly. She will be going to a school that just went 22-4 so it is likely earning a spot won’t be easy, but even if she isn’t playing varsity day one she has a lot of time to develop yet before even thinking about the next level. As she ages though it isn’t hard to picture her drawing interest from schools in the next few years.
Hailey Testolin ’24 – McFarland High School – This 5’10 wing has a lot of talent and it’s easy to see she has a lot of moves and seems to always be in control of her body. She may have been a causality of the pandemic shortening her high school team’s season and maybe giving more playing time to upperclassmen may have limited her opportunity to play. She definitely has a good jumper that she shoots in rhythm every time, she pairs her ability to shoot paired with her cutting makes defenders have to think. As she gets more into her high school teams rotation it wouldn’t be surprising to start seeing her make a name for herself in the high school scene.
Alayna West ’24 – Madison La Follette – Another young guard standing at 5’7 is very much a prototypical pass-first point guard. She looks to get her teammates involved before herself and takes serious joy in doing so. She was behind a lot of upperclassmen last season during her freshman season, but after a lot of the team is turned over it will be interesting to see if she snags a role in the rotation next season due to her ability to get the best out of her teammates.
