These players all have roles on their respective varsity teams and henceforth makes it easy to see them against high-level competition. This article will include the main takeaways from their film.
Emily Clevindence ’22 – Monona Grove High School – With only eight games in her high school career so far due to COVID-19 her first year was derailed which is truly unfortunate. That being said in those eight games she showed a lot of self-confidence. Standing at 5’8 she is an aggressive passer who is looking to break defenses with a single pass, this trait she has shown how much she believes in her ability to spread the ball around to her teammates. Her jump shot has a slight lean to it when she lifts That being said it looks good, and when she does lift for her shot it is unlikely many people can get to her release point because even though she is 5’8 she jumps extremely high to get a good release point.
Elly Kohl ’23 – Fort Atkinson High School – A 5’8 guard who does a lot of secondary ball-handling work attacking open spaces defenses leave is what she does best. She is a player who may not jump off the page with the real measurables but coaches should love her motor. She is consistently contesting players who think they have 1 on 0 fast breaks and getting steals or blocks. She is a good team defender due to her spatial awareness, especially when her team runs a full-court press. As a spot-up shooter, she can be a little inconsistent with the speed of releases, but that is more due to the space she is given.
Amy Theilen ’23 – Columbus High School – Standing at 5’11 this is a unique forward with a perimeter skillset. She always has her head up when the ball is in her hands surveying the floor and looking for open shooters or cutters. Not only is it gonna be tough for defenses if they lay off to not allow her to drive, but she is also not shy when it comes to letting a stand-alone three fly. Her ability however to be able to see the floor at all times and focus on that while driving forward with the ball gives her some catch-and-go ability when rebounding defensively and that alone should make coaches looking to play up-tempo interested in her skillset.
Megan Murphy Megan Murphy 5'6" | CG Verona | 2023 State WI ’23 – Verona High School – This is a player who one could only imagine is miserable to play against. Although only a 5’6 guard she just counters whatever the person lined up against her doesn’t want her to do. Think she’s playing off, she’s playing one pass away, and it’s a free layup for her, closeout hard she steps in and banks in a floater, closeout too slowly and she will calmly put in a three without touching the rim. This is all missing the point that when she is on ball she is hounding opponents and making their lives miserable. This is a player who may not stand out physically, but definitely can play on any team and be a welcome addition.
