By Michael Wholey 8/17/21 2:00 PM EST
With the 2021 travel season concluded and the 2021-22 school year started, the class of 2023 has been busy. Many have taken the opportunity to visit college campuses, participate in college elite camps, and played a number of games on the travel ball circuit. Here are seven players in the class of 2023 that college coaches should be watching.
Madison Aguilera Madison Aguilera 5'3" | PG Gulliver Prep | 2023 State FL (Gulliver Prep / Miami Suns South) 5’4 Guard
Aguilera is a quick, crafty young player who can score! She is a consistent double-figure scorer from the point guard spot averaging 15.9 points per game for Gulliver Prep during the 2020-21 season and then followed that up with a big summer with Miami Suns South 17U squad. She uses her height to her advantage, attacking off the dribble, getting into the paint and creating havoc on opposing defenses while also being able to knock it down from 3!
Taylor Blackshear Taylor Blackshear 5'7" | SG Benjamin School | 2023 State FL (Benjamin School / Essence) 5’7 Guard
Blackshear is an explosive 5’7 shooting guard who had an impressive Sophomore season for Benjamin School averaging 15+ points per game. She mainly scores off the dribble, attacking the rim aggressively. In addition to being a scoring threat, she is one of the best rebounding guards I have seen. She consistently goes to the glass and does a great job keeping balls alive on the offensive end.
Keyara Bromley Keyara Bromley 5'9" | SG Armwood | 2023 State FL (Armwood HS) 5’10 Wing
Bromley missed the 2021 travel season after averaging 13.1 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 5.9 assists per game. She is a versatile player who can play the guard, wing and forward positions. The biggest asset of her game is her shooting ability, as she has deep range and solid shooting form. In addition to being able to knock down the open shot, she has the ability to attack the basket off the dribble and is an aggressive defender who uses her strong, athletic build to cause turnovers and pressure the ball.
Kiaraly Cabrera Kiaraly Cabrera 5'7" | CG Naples Community School | 2023 State FL (Community School of Naples / Trinity Travel Basketball) 5’6 Guard
Cabrera is an extremely skilled shooting guard who has a smooth floor game and plays with a ton of poise. She is a natural scorer with impressive shooting form and an ability to score from all areas of the court. She is most effective with the ball in her hands and needs to learn how to play off the ball more. Her potential is through the roof and her best basketball is ahead of her. She might be one of the state’s most under the radar prospects in the class of 2023.
Jordyn Byrd Jordyn Byrd 6'3" | PF Cardinal Mooney | 2023 State #25 Nation FL (Cardinal Mooney / FGB) 6’4 Center
Byrd is a dominating interior force averaging double digit points and rebounds for Cardinal Mooney, leading them to Lakeland for the FHSAA Final 4. She has elite level height, athleticism, length and mobility and is a major force in the paint as a rebounder and shot blocker. Her offensive skill set is still developing and it is yet to be determined whether she will pursue playing basketball collegiately as she is also a big time volleyball player and missed parts of the 2021 travel season due to travel volleyball.
Reina Green Reina Green 5'10" | CG St. Thomas Aquinas | 2023 State FL (St. Thomas Aquinas / Miami Suns) 5’8 Shooting Guard
Green followed a breakout 2020 travel season with an even better 2021 travel season. She is a super athlete who has a ton of energy and plays hard on both ends of the floor. Her body catches your eye very quickly as she looks the part of a high-level guard. Her performance this past July, really elevated her profile as she was extremely productive on the offensive end of the floor. She attacked the rim off the dribble, played well in transition, and shoot a high percentage from 3. Her strong build, good height, and athleticism along with her offensive skill set make her one of the class of 2023s biggest stock risers.
Kristina Godfrey Kristina Godfrey 5'7" | PG Miami Country Day | 2023 State FL (Miami Country Day / Miami Suns) 5’9 Guard
Godfrey is an agile, lefty combo guard with range well beyond the 3-point line. She plays well off the bounce, getting into the paint to showcase her mid-range game or attacking and getting all the way to the rim. She averaged 10.7 points and 6.6 assists per game for Miami Country Day as their starting point guard, helping them to a 23-3 record and a state championship. On the travel circuit, she started the summer playing at the 16U level with the Miami Suns Team Larkins and moved up to the Miami Suns Team Fowles at the 17U level on the back end of the travel season.
