The class of 2022 recruiting cycle is in go mode. Players have completed their final season of travel basketball, have visited campuses unofficially, have begun setting up official visits, and are starting to make decisions as to where they will continue their academic and athletic careers. Here is an updated list of the class of 2022 players that have verbally committed – part 1.
Katie Ambrose Katie Ambrose 5'5" | PG Gulf Coast | 2022 State FL (Gulf Coast HS / Tampa Thunder) – St. Francis (PA)
Ambrose was not on the road all summer with Tampa Thunder instead choosing to work on her game and visit some college campuses. After visiting St. Francis in Pennsylvania, Ambrose verbally committed to second year head coach Keila Whittington and will suit up for the Red Flashes in the 2021-22 season playing along side fellow Florida Halie Murphy who played her prep career at St. Thomas Aquinas and Stoneman Douglas. Ambrose is do it all point guard, floor leader and an extension of the coach on the floor. She is a high IQ, skilled guard with savvy handle, excellent court vision, and a great decision maker. Her ability to pass with both the left and right hand really stands out. She has three-point range as well as a mid-range pull up and is not afraid of the big shot. She gets all her teammates involved and almost always find the open player. She plays super hard on both ends of the floor and does a good job changing speeds/direction and using her body vs aggressive and more athletic defenders.
Aly Avrach Aly Avrach 5'8" | CG Spanish River | 2022 State FL (Spanish River / East Coast United) – Palm Beach Atlantic
Avrach was also not on the road this summer with East Coast United having verbally committed to Palm Beach Atlantic during her Junior season in high school. Avrach is a talented scorer, who is able to create in the half-court with a knack for tough buckets. She will attack from anywhere on the floor, and is a creative finisher at the rim showcasing a floater, finger rolls, and a sweet pull-up jumper. Avrach has a nice high release on her 3, and when she locks in, at 5’8 she can make shots over smaller defenders. I saw her make a post move, that convinced me she is a complete scorer, her ability to put up points is one thing, but she does it in different ways. Finishes with either hand, mid-range, spot-up or pull up 3’s, I really liked her ability to create when there didn’t seem to be anything there. Avrach can score at every level, she is one of the more complete players in the area.
Jordana Codio Jordana Codio 6'1" | SF Montverde Academy | 2022 State FL (Montverde Academy / Essence) – Texas
Codio was another one who did not play travel ball this summer recovering from injury but continued to travel with Essence at all their tournaments. Codio was originally committed to Wisconsin but after a coaching change de-committed. The 6’2 wing had a busy couple of months de-committing from Wisconsin, changing high schools from American Heritage Delray to Montverde Academy, and then verbally committed to the University of Texas. The 6’2 wing is long, long, long! She has super high potential and her body resembles those at the BCS and WNBA level that are most effective. Great height. Great length. Athletic. Extremely versatile. There are very few players with the combination of her size, length and athleticism. She has moments that make you go wow and see how special she can be. Her move to Montverde puts her on a loaded high school roster with arguably the most talented team in the country nationally.
Ajalon Gillard Ajalon Gillard 5'9" | CG West Orange | 2022 State FL (West Orange HS / Hoop Dreams Elite) – FAU
Gillard verbally committed during July to new first year head coach Jennifer Sullivan at Florida Atlantic University. Sullivan and staff have made recruiting the state of Florida a priority, putting out a number of scholarship offers across the 2022 to 2026 classes. Gillard is the first in state prospect to commit to FAU under Sullivan’s leadership. She is a long, athletic scoring wing player who has deep 3-point range. Her long wing span stands out as she has a great length and height for a perimeter player. She is one of the most improved players in the state that I have seen. In addition to putting her shooting ability on display this summer, Gillard also showcased her ability to put the ball to the floor and get to the rim or pull up off the dribble. She plays extremely unselfish always making the extra pass and finding the open player.
Jada Green Jada Green 6'0" | PF St. Thomas Aquinas | 2022 State FL (St. Thomas Aquinas / FGB) – Richmond
Green fresh off a solid performance with FGB during the summer and a state championship with St. Thomas Aquinas verbally committed to University of Richmond in the A-10 this month. Green is a 6’0, very athletic, versatile multi-dimensional inside out forward. She can run the floor like a deer, her length and athleticism stand out. She catches the ball well in transition and traffic. She plays well from the high post with 15 feet range and can put the ball to the floor going to the rim. She is an unselfish interior presence who gives ball up to open players on the perimeter and finds them at the rim for easy buckets. High ceiling with tons of potential.
Janiyah Jackson Janiyah Jackson 6'2" | C St Augustine | 2022 State FL (Andrew Jackson High School / East Coast United)
Jackson followed a successful with East Coast United 2022 The Family by verbally committing to in state Saint Leo, giving ECU their first verbal commitment in the 2022 class. Jackson is a 5’8 combo guard who averaged 11 points per game for Andrew Jackson HS in Jacksonville, FL and lead them to a 13-6 record before falling to Audia Young Audia Young 5'8" | CG Florida State | 2022 State FL and Florida State University High School in the regional playoffs. Jackson is a combo guard who can play both the point guard and shooting guard position. She has solid handle, attacks the basket fearlessly, plays hard on every possession and is a capable lock down defender!
Kailyn Gilbert Kailyn Gilbert 5'8" | CG IMG Academy | 2022 State FL (Seffner Christian / FBC United) – Arizona
Gilbert pledged to the University of Arizona fresh off a final four appearance in the 2021 NCAA tournament over six months ago. She is an athletic, high flying, high motor, scoring guard who has one of the highest motors and one of the most competitive players nationally that I have seen. Her energy and athleticism are even more impressive in person than on film. She competes every possession on both sides of the floor. She can score in a variety of ways and is a beast on the defensive end. The Arizona Wildcats are getting a very intriguing prospect with a ton of talent.
