Continue ReadingFull disclosure, it’s difficult to list the very top shooters at this event due to how wide the variance of shooting can be. In Appleton, there were a lot of kids who shot the ball well. Trying to reduce a group this large has its challenges, so bear that in mind when reading the list assembled. The way I compiled this list largely has to do what these players can do not just with shooting, but with the mere threat of shooting. I feel that this is a more accurate way to describe how valuable a shooter is. This list is in no particular order.
Peytonn Musiall Peytonn Musiall 5'11" | SG Notre Dame Academy | 2025 WI -5’11 G/F-’25-Notre Dame Academy: Musial shot the ball especially well in her team’s third game of the day. However, what she was able to do using her jump shot as a threat to do other things was just as impressive. Being able to be a true triple-threat on the perimeter is a very nice skill set to have, and as a freshman that makes it even better. As a left-handed player, she attacked closeouts well. Her size is also a massive help when she gets into the paint to attack taller defenders. Overall, she has a good feel for the game at this point still has a lot to learn and develop, but early signs for development are really good.
Reagan Pahl Reagan Pahl 5'6" | CG Cedarburg | 2023 State WI -5’6 G-’23-Cedarburg: Pahl shot the ball with high levels of confidence. One of my favorite moments re-watching these games was from Pahl. As an inbounder on a baseline out of bounds, she passed the ball in under the basket and immediately floated to the corner. The ball found her and two defenders attempted to close out, with two hands in her face she drained a corner three. Pahl has a knack for finding open spots and taking advantage of space. Her range is vast as well. In her first game, I saw her make a college range three and seemed fully confident in her ability to make it. She has no hesitation with her shot and that’s why she’s here.
Haley Reed Haley Reed 5'7" | PG Freedom | 2025 WI -5’7 G-’25-Freedom: Reed is one to keep an eye as she progressed. Overall there is a lot still for her to improve on, but she showed signs on how letha she can be as a shooter. She has a smooth confident shot that looks good mechanically. She stays active off ball filling spaces. She hardly ever remains stationary for too long. So her process to get shots for catch and shoot opportunities is set. Right now that may be her best weapon on offense. As she gets older it will be interesting to see where her game develops. Right now however, an excellent showing in Appleton shooting will only do her confidence well.
Megan Murphy Megan Murphy 5'6" | CG Verona | 2023 State WI -5’6 G-’23-Verona: This junior from Verona seems to have counters for anything revolving around her shooting. She is a good shot maker when given space. Her ability to attack closeouts in awesome, and that leads to kickouts to open teammates or opening up her floater game. Murphy can also get defenders off of her with her hard change of direction especially on recovering defenses. All of this is is based around her ability to shoot. Murphy is another player I’ve seen through my film study series. Based off her film and what I saw in person the best word I have to describe her is consistent.
