It’s about that time we venture to the Greater Milwaukee region and look at the Classic 8 conference. Last season was an uber-competitive campaign with co-champions Kettle Moraine and Arrowhead both finishing the conference season at 13-3, but only a game back of those two was Waukesha West at 12-4. The level of competition in this conference is at such a high standard that every athlete in it will be forced to have the best version of themselves brought out of them.
[player_tooltip player_id="156050" first="Grace" last="Grocholski"]-5’10 G-’23-Kettle Moraine: A co-conference player of the year this previous season, along with returning to the co-conference champion Kettle Moraine is a recipe for success. Coming off of basically a 20 point 10 rebound season Grocholski is one of the best players in the conference and as she ages and refines her game she is only going to get even better.
[player_tooltip player_id="132380" first="Ashlyn" last="Yow"]-5’6 PG-’22- Waukesha West: A point guard for a very young Wolverine team will be coming of age this season with their core finally all becoming upperclassmen. Yow in particular is very fun to watch, she has real ability as a passer and makes passes at a high level that get her teammates’ easy looks. She has the ability to play the angles with her passes because she does an amazing job of creating them out of nothing. With her passing ability at the lead guard position, it is to be expected that her team may be atop the conference in points because of all the easy looks Yow is going to create.
[player_tooltip player_id="262974" first="Natalie" last="Gricius"]-5’10 F-’22-Oconomowoc: A player who has kind of gone a little under the radar due to the talent roaming in the Classic 8. That being said Gricius is an interesting prospect because she has the ability to stretch defenses with her shooting, she is a good screen setter and was a big-time performer in games where they needed her to step up. If Oconomowoc is to take a leap from their 9-7 conference record Gricius is going to be very important to that.
[player_tooltip player_id="156078" first="Caden" last="Krohn"]-6’0 F-’23-Waukesha West: Possibly the most talented player on this Wolverine team Krohn is a do-it-all forward. She has good size, mobility, skill, and a great IQ to boot. Her passing is extremely interesting because it’s all over the place, in a good way. Her passes can be a skip pass to the corner right on the button or a little shovel pass going block to block catching defenses out of position. Krohn also has a silky smooth jumper and at her size and release point, she can get to it whenever she wants to.
