Waupun last season dominated going 14-0 in conference play with some extremely talented players returning. However, that’s not to say other top teams like Kewaskum and Kettle Moraine Lutheran can’t compete, so it’s only right to take a look and preview this coming season.
Kayl Petersen Kayl Petersen 6'1" | PF Waupun | 2024 State WI -6’0 G-’24-Waupun: Petersen is one of the more well-rounded players in the state, even after just one season of high school. There isn’t much she can’t do, she can play on the block with her six-foot size, she has a soft shooting touch, along with that she can put the ball on the floor and take it to the rim. Her size also helps her clear the boards and protect the rim with just over eight rebounds and two blocks her length also helps her in the passing lanes to get steals as well, adding two of those a night. Make no mistake about it this player is arguably the most gifted player in the state.
Madilyn Dogs Madilyn Dogs 6'0" | CG Kewaskum | 2023 State WI -5’11 G/F-’23-Kewaskum: Dogs is an extremely fun player to watch because she does a little bit of everything. She has grab-and-go ability off of defensive rebounds, she has a bit of shooting touch and she has a great feel for the game. My personal favorite part about her game is how she’s comfortable using both hands at the rim and uses her off-hand with ease. Her ability defensively is equally as fun because of her ability to read the game. She will steal passes from the player she’s guarding and just snatch it, that ability isn’t common and it’s immensely impressive to watch.
Grace Gopalan-5’1 G-’24-Waupun: Even with size limitations Gopalan excels as a guard on one of the best teams in the state of Wisconsin. Her ability to keep her head on the ball defensively has gotten her some wild games, like earning a seven-steal game against Berlin. She is the perfect complementary guard for what Waupun has gone and if they make it deep into the state tournament she is someone who should receive a lot of plaudits for it.
Ava Booth-5’6 G-’22-Plymouth: Booth is a bit of an outside character in the conference, but she does a lot of great things for Plymouth. Even as a point guard she led her team in rebounds and assists. She was a player whose numbers were a bit subdued due to the low offensive output that the whole team had a season ago, meaning the defense that Plymouth had had to be big for them and defending the point of attack is huge. Booth led her team in steals as well with close to two a game. So even though numbers may not be extraordinary this is a handy player Plymouth has and has the ability to win a good amount of games because of her this season.
