Kayla Herrera Kayla Herrera 5'4" | CG Alexander | 2022 State TX -5’4 CG (Laredo Alexander HS) 2022
Herrera gets to the rim as well as any guard in her class but what keeps amazing me is her ability to defy gravity and score after the lick which also places her in the “and one waiting to happen” group. Each time I see her, she shows me something different, which is good because every time it’s a different setting with different players so she understands how to adjust yet still be relevant no matter what the situation is. Her pull-up jumper in the half-court or the stop and pop jumper in transition are both consistent yet she can switch over and run the 1 because of her ballhandling and court vision, not to mention she understands how to control the tempo
Maggie Hutka Maggie Hutka 6'1" | SF Royse City | 2022 State TX -6’1 SF (Royse City HS) 2022
Hutka just did it for me offensively as she found ways to put the ball in the basket, with a knee brace on, which was even more impressive yet she has a stroke, from mid to long-range which could place her at the 3 in many instances and one thing I know is that college coaches love big guards that can shoot, so do I but they give scholarships. she also used her size on the inside to score around the basket, either using nice hands and footwork or off of putbacks, yes, she rebounded on both ends but just as impressive was her lateral movement on defense
Dalanna Carter Dalanna Carter 5'6" | PG Barbers Hill | 2023 State #30 Nation TX -5’6 PG (Lutheran North HS) 2023
Carter is one of the top guards in the state, I go by what I see and have said this since she was in elementary school when I called her a #D1Lock and since she has offers on the table, D1, I will drop the mic as she does several times on the court. She continues to show what she brings to the table, although the novice and (or) clueless may not see, her first step and ability to get to the rim is second to no one in Texas. She extends on her finishes, which she’s doing with either hand and doing it after contact yet I still enjoy watching her set the defender up for the jumper, which she drops from mid to long-range, anywhere on the court
Amiya Hopkins Amiya Hopkins 6'2" | PF North Crowley | 2023 State TX -6’1 PF (North Crowley HS) 2023
Hopkins understands now what I saw in her as a freshman and that is she’s a #BEAST around the basket and her ability to overpower defenders, while under control, just keeps getting better. She literally scores with players hanging on her but what I really love is her “going after the ball off the rim” and I see players stand cemented waiting for it, not her, she wants it yet she also showed some pretty impressive times to both block shots and play the passing lane, which gave me a glimpse of her handling the ball in the open court to go coast to coast for lay-ups, oh yeah, she runs the floor, on both ends
Ma"Riya Vincent-6’0 SF (Klein Cain HS) 2024
Vincent is proving the PRICE is being scary, I know most of you are thinking ” what is he talking about” and I’m thinking “it’s over your head” like the way she keeps doing things she wasn’t doing. She made my Tip Sheet in middle school and a few months later she was a #D1Lock yet after this weekend, throw away the ket because she’s playing multiple positions very well. Her ballhandling under pressure in the open court was very good, so was the half-court as she took defenders with either hand to score off the dribble and finish, with either hand, after contact. The jumper is smooth, from mid to long-range yet she still finds ways to outrebound taller opponents and finish, also after contact
