Summer 2020 was very different in many ways; cities not allowing large crowds and NCAA faced a continued dead period due to COVID-19. However, July 2021 was filled with NCAA-certified events full of players with hopes of earning opportunities to play at the next level. Players from Alabama played in states from Iowa to Texas to Georgia to Pennsylvania. Just a few players that stood out during their July journey: [player_tooltip player_id="318415" first="Shaniah" last="Nunn"] | Fairfield HS | All Alabama She was chosen the MVP for the North team of the Alabama North-South game that showcases the top rising seniors in the state. Shaniah is a mismatch for most guards, at 6-0 with that long lanky body, quickness, and ability to hit a pull-up jumper, she is a nightmare for a lot of guards. Shaniah has committed to play for Coastal Carolina. [player_tooltip player_id="318414" first="Alexis" last="Andrews"] | Park Crossings | Essence/Auburn Raptors She was chosen the MVP for the South team in the annual Alabama North-South game. Alexis can get to the rim with a quick first step and doesn’t mind the contact. [player_tooltip player_id="318431" first="Caroline" last="Bachus"] | Athens | AL Southern Starz Caroline was instrumental in her team winning the silver division championship at the 2021 NIKE EYBL Girls 17U Summer championships. Standing at 6-2 she can shoot the three and will block shots. If on the wing, will put the ball on the floor and drive to the basket. She also committed to play for Auburn University. [player_tooltip player_id="318433" first="Faith" last="Johnson"] | Talladega County Central | AL Twisters Elite Faith had a breakout summer. She is definitely the floor general that coaches look for. Her ability to get teammates involved, paired with an exceptional stroke from beyond the arc makes her a dual-threat prospect. Mark this name down, and look for her in the winter as she is a prolific scorer that gets it going in bunches. If you want to talk about a bucket, she ended her junior year with 2,096 career points. That’s some BIG-TIME scoring. [player_tooltip player_id="318423" first="Masyn" last="Marchbanks"] | Hartselle Masyn was chosen for the North-South game and with the way that she played this summer, it was well within reason. The state All-Star game is for rising seniors. She showcased a great pull-up game and is usually in the right place at the right time for steals and finishes at the rim. Her defense is the secret to her effectiveness on the court and opens up the rest of the game. Masyn is a Samford commit and they are getting a hard worker that brings it every time she touches the court. [player_tooltip player_id="319542" first="Samiya" last="Steele"] | Hazel Green | AL Southern Starz A three-time state championship and MVP in last year’s state championship game. Samiya seems to have it all and is a hard-working player. She plays on both sides of the floor, is a leader on the floor, and just does the little things. She can bring the ball up the court, see’s the floor which gets teammates involved, and identifies what defense is coming at her to help her score with ease. She rebounds at a high level and can give you a double-double during any given game.
