Now that the senior class rankings have been updated it is time to start digging into the additions, changes, and looking at positions. To start things off enjoy this look at the top advancers in the class.
[player_tooltip player_id="125027" first="Emilee" last="Lane"], 6’0", PF, TMP-Marian - Lane is one of the best kept secrets of western Kansas she deserves substantial attention. After a long look at her this summer, including a game in which her club team only had five players yet only lost by a few points, that enabled me to see the entirety of her game she rockets up the ranks 52 spots to #27. Physically Lane is almost wiry long, has quick feet, athetic, and strong. A highly regarded volleyball player as well, Lane has consistently good hops and timing to rebound well and finish off the catch. A resilient, tough, and high IQ player who scores facing up to and back to the basket; blocks shots; and is especially tough in the mid-range game. This past spring she was selected 3A honorable mention all-state. She also earned Mid-Continent first team selection after being selected to the second team in 2020.
[player_tooltip player_id="158581" first="Kamryn" last="Farris"], 5’11", PF, Lansing (73-->40) - Farris is the second player to make a large jump, rising 33 spots to #40. In averaging 11.1 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.6 steals, Farris was selected to the KBCA 5A second team. She also returns as a two-time United Kansas League first team selection. She has a good build, solid hops, and has strong off-ball anticipation.

[player_tooltip player_id="191219" first="Jorah" last="Harbaugh"], 5’4", PG, Pretty Prairie - Harbaugh had a strong summer. Very smart and shifty, she often lost defending guards by anticipating what her opponent would do off high screens and other situations then work opposite. Her quick hands generate steals and also help her make catchable passes including entry passes. Harbaugh also has good transition speed, looks to stay on the move in the half court, and is a consistent perimeter threat. Heart of the Plains two time first team. Harbaugh advances eight spots to #187.

After climbing 20 spots in the July rankings release, Horyna moves up another seven to #54. A good three point shooter off the catch, her improved handles and quickness have made her a greater threat. She also has done her share of abusing defenders off the bounce working from 12’ and due to being a good mid-range shooter. Horyna has solid transition speed and hops, but where she especially shines is in her defensive IQ. Over the summer she showed a high level ability for seeing plays develop, anticipating where the ball will go, and anticipating where shots are going to come from to get into position to make plays. Having played her far share inside she also uses her lower body well defending from behind. Horyna was a Western Activities Conference second team selection in 2021.

[player_tooltip player_id="191209" first="Lily" last="Kovalcik"], 5’7", SG, Shawnee Mission South - <span data-sheets-value="{"1":2,"2":"Shows the ball well to set up the dribble drive. Can finish with athleticism."}" data-sheets-userformat="{"2":1317377,"3":{"1":0},"12":0,"14":{"1":2,"2":0},"15":"Verdana","21":0,"23":1}">The extension of the three point line in collegiate women’s basketball places a premium on shooters who can shoot with range. Hitting the three with range is just one of the abilities Kovalcik brings to the table. Her vision in half and full court situations makes her quick, soft entry passes successful and helps her nose for the offensive rebound. She has the athleticism to not just finish with athleticism on both sides of the basket but to show the ball well to set up her finish. Kovalcik advances seven spots to #101.

A high potential power forward with good length and solid transition speed, Fillmore is a shot blocking threat who finishes well around the basket with power moves. She advances seven spots to #198.

Photo: Prep Girls Hoops.[/caption][player_tooltip player_id="125021" first="Jaley" last="Barkley"], 5’7", PG, Cair Paravel Latin - Barkley is a high confidence, consistent energy, fundamentally sound, and hard working floor leader who climbs six spots to #89. She is not a beat you off the bounce, score first player. She will pick her spots to do that and finish with a variety of shots on both sides of the basket but she is more apt to use her high IQ and play making ability to create opportunities for her teammates. Barkley always seems to be around the ball, closes out well with quickness and balance, and is among the best players in the state at taking away the baseline from ball-handlers who have already committed to it. She also has consistent 20’+ range, wastes little motion on her perimeter release. As I have said before, she’s a gimme first team selection in the new Kaw Valley League.<span data-sheets-value="{"1":2,"2":"Averages 13.5 points and 2 assists. [player_tooltip player_id="294920" first="Emma" last="Lehman"], 5’11", SF/PF, Goodland - A 2021 Great West Athletic Conference honorable mention selection, Lehman is a player I hope to see more of this high school season. Averaging 8 points and 4 rebounds this past season Lehman shot 40% from three. Operating inside she keeps the ball high off entry passes and goes up quickly. Lehman advances six spots to #207.
