Christopher Newport University HS Shootout Part 3

Christopher Newport University hosted teams 30 plus teams from all over Virginia on campus for a one day tournament.  Provided a great opportunity for teams who don’t typically play during the regular season to get on the court together.  Several games were competitive and there was a lot of talent on the court. [player_tooltip player_id="304790" first="Seimone" last="Newton"]-Cosby-2025 Seimone puts in the work and it shows on the court.  Athletic with good size on the perimeter.  Her ball handling and outside shot have improved, scored in a variety of ways.  She is aggressive going to the basket, good offensive rebounder and works short corner well for easy buckets around the basket.  She gives nothing less than full effort, good shot blocker and hustles after every loose ball.  Seimone will be a big contributor for a young Cosby team. [player_tooltip player_id="254975" first="Mia" last="Woolfolk"]-2024-Manchester Great size, unselfish player and elite defender/rebounder.  The only way to hope to contain her is to put two or three players on her.  She is too strong for single coverage in the post.  Mia showed great leadership skills, she was vocal on both ends of the court and provided energy and extra effort when needed most.  Manchester is a very talented team, with Mia leading the way they will be a tough matchup every night. Peyton Jones-2023-Meridian High IQ player that guards 94ft.  She created a lot of turnovers and easy baskets for her team with her harassing defense.  She is quick, crafty finisher around the basket and a knock down shooter.  Plays with a lot of energy and is relentless in a full court press.  Displayed good court awareness, knowing where her teammates were and makes the easy pass. Jorah Eppley-2023-Catholic Good size and length, 5’9, at the PG position, is equally effective off the ball. Knock down shooter with good handles. Nice hesitation into mid-range, good elevation on her shot. Distributes the ball to scorers, moves well without the ball and can get into the paint and finish with either hand. [player_tooltip player_id="188319" first="Niyah" last="Gaston"]-2023-Kings Fork Knock down 3pt shooter, must know where she is at all times. Consistent, dependable player who takes care of the basketball. She gets to her spots on the court, and can score in a variety of ways.  Good size, strong body on the wing with loads of potential.
