So far, PGH NJ has talked about some teams in the Olympic Conference, but it’s time to branch out and talk about some other big name programs in the state.
From the Olympic Conference, we stay in South Jersey and head over to the Tri-County Conference and Clearview, a team that has seen a significant amount of turnover in the past several seasons.
The Tribe saw two of their most impactful players in the 2019-20 season, Kassidy Thompson Kassidy Thompson 5'9" | SG Camden Catholic | 2023 State NJ and Aaryn Battle Aaryn Battle 5'8" | SF Camden Catholic | 2023 State NJ , both transfer to Camden Catholic before the start of what became the shortened 2021 season this spring.
While those two left, Clearview saw a number of players step up in big ways to make this team stand out and keep them a contender in the conference and the region overall.
When talking about this team for the upcoming season, the first two names that come to mind are Ana Pellecchia and Emma Steidle. The sophomore Pellecchia and the junior Steidle accounted for 60 percent of team offense in the spring.
Combined, they averaged 26.9 PPG, 6.2 SPG and four made three-pointers a game last season, quite impressive numbers for the two underclassmen. Clearview used that momentum to go 11-4 on the year in 2021, including 7-2 in divisional play.
This is a team that was a very young roster loaded with talent coming into the spring, but retained all of their core. Junior forward Payton Foster will man the middle for this team and made steady improvements the past two seasons.
Last season, she averaged 8.7 PPG and 6.4 RPG, leading the team in rebounding and finishing third in points and fourth in steals. Foster, Pellecchia and Steidle are the go-to options for Clearview, but their roster is deep, with five other players who are potential difference-makers.
Senior guard Sophia Lutz finished third on the team in steals, averaging just over two a game, and she was second in assists, third in rebounds and fourth in points. Expect to see her factor in the starting lineup, but the fifth starting spot it truly a toss-up.
Senior forward Zoe Miloszewski has a good chance to get it, giving Clearview a three-guard, two-forward look on the floor. Miloszewski provides more stability in the rebounding department, but junior guards Beth Lindenbaum and Sarah Wall are solid scoring options and Wall can shoot it well from the perimeter.
There’s one thing Clearview doesn’t have to worry about and it’s rebuilding as this program is ready to compete now and they’re going to be a force in the Tri-County Conference this season.
