The Wolverines ended up finishing the season with a 10-3 record, but this year, they’re out to re-write the script and solidify themselves as one of the best in the TCC.
Prep Girls Hoops New Jersey has been continuing its coverage of the upcoming 2021-22 New Jersey high school girls basketball season with more team previews, and in this article, PGH NJ puts Woodstown under the microscope.
Head coach Brandon Lyons and the Wolverines have a strong team full of young talent coming this winter, but this will will certainly feel the losses of Daisy Baldwin and Sam Wooster, who both graduated this spring.
Baldwin finished second on the team in both points and rebounds last season, nearly missing out on a double-double season average.
Between the two, Woodstown lost a quarter of their offense and just over 32 percent of their rebounding. However, there are some budding stars on this team that are poised to step up and have breakout years.
It starts with seniors Chloe Cuzzupe and Riley Fulmer, the top two returning scorers for Woodstown this season. Fulmer had arguably the best season of her high school career, averaging 16.2 PPG, 1.9 SPG and two made three-pointers a game.
She was one of the best pure three-point shooters in the conference and is an electric offensive player. Cuzzupe, alongside her, is a strong defensive presence and the best passer on the team.
Cuzzupe averaged 8.0 PPG, 5.3 RPG, 3.8 APG and 2.8 SPG last season, leading Woodstown in assists and steals. Her defense is going to be a crucial part of this team come this winter.
The Wolverines’ top forward this winter is junior forward Evee Spencer, who led the team in rebounds and blocks in the spring. She averaged 10.2 RPG, 1.3 BPG and 1.5 SPG last season and was absolutely dominant down on the block. Spencer is the stability this team needs on the defensive end.
Sophomore Shannon Pierman and junior Tatum Devault are expected to either start or be one of the first options off the bench this season. Pierman had a strong showing as a freshman, averaging 3.7 PPG and 3.8 RPG in nine games. A full season will benefit her tremendously for consistency on the court.
Devault averaged 1.1 PPG and 3.2 RPG, finishing second on the team in blocks with 0.6 BPG. She seems to be more of a defensive specialist, so expect her and Spencer to be paired together on the floor.
Expect another consistently dominant season from Woodstown in the Tri-County Conference this winter.
