In this article, we’ll be taking a closer look at the rankings to talk about some of the top prospects in the state.
We move to the 2023 class to talk about the No. 22-24 prospects in the state as ranked by our PGH NJ team.
No. 22: Gabriella Ross Gabriella Ross 5'7" | SG Donovan Catholic | 2023 State NJ – 5-7 SF, Donovan Catholic
Ross was the leading scorer on a Donovan Catholic team that went 12-1 in the spring, one of the most dominant in the state and the Shore Conference.
She put up some big time numbers as a sophomore, averaging 16.5 PPG, 1.8 SPG and 1.3 made three-pointers a game, leading the team in scoring and finishing second in steals and three-pointers.
With her current trajectory, her junior season is going to be an incredible one to watch. We’ll see if she can improve on the rebounding side, but her defense is stellar and she’s undoubtedly an incredible scorer.
No. 23: Mattison Chiera Mattison Chiera 5'10" | CG Colonia | 2023 State NJ – 5-10 SF, Colonia
Chiera and teammate Taylor Derkack Taylor Derkack 6'0" | SF Colonia | 2024 State NJ were the underclass backbone of Colonia last season. Of the two, Chiera is more of the perimeter shooter, hitting nearly 1.4 made three-pointers in the spring.
Overall, she averaged 16.2 PPG, 6.8 RPG and 2.9 SPG, a fantastic overall season for the junior who should be on the watch list of anyone looking at guards in North Jersey for this coming winter.
In the Greater Middlesex Conference, Chiera is easily one of the best overall players around and we’ll be seeing another breakout from her this coming season.
No. 24: Iriona Gravley – 5-11 SF/PF, Williamstown
Gravley was one of a few bright lights for this Williamstown team moving forward as she nearly averaged a double-double in the spring, averaging 10.4 PPG and 9.3 RPG.
Along with her stellar numbers on both sides of the floor, she also nearly averaged a block a game and averaged a steal a game, showing the balanced player that she’s become for the Lady Braves.
While Williamstown looks to improve as a team overall, Gravley is going to be a big key to their success. If she can average a double-double this season while also being now a veteran presence, this team is set up well for success.
There is plenty more content to come this season, so stick with Prep Girls Hoops New Jersey for what’s to come next.
