Prep Girls Hoops New Jersey is gearing up for the 2021-22 season, which starts in roughly a month or so with our prospect rankings, all of which have been published in anticipation for the season.
In this article, we’ll be focusing on the 2023 class and the No. 31-33 top junior prospects in this class as ranked by the Prep Girls Hoops New Jersey team.
No. 31: Riley Ahrens Riley Ahrens 5'10" | SG Delran | 2023 State NJ – 5-10 SG, Delran
Ahrens was a recent addition to this list and for good reason. The standout guard for Delran has made a name for herself in South Jersey, especially with in the AAU circuit with the AUF Lady Hawks.
During the spring, she led Delran in points, three-point shooting, steals and blocks, and finished second in rebounding. She averaged 12.3 PPG, 4.9 RPG and 3.1 SPG while hitting just under 1.7 made three-pointers a game.
There was truly no stopping Ahrens on the floor and she was as advertised and then some. This junior season is going to be one where she’ll solidify herself that much more in the BCSL and the region as an all-around powerhouse.
No. 32: Meghan Lamanna Meghan Lamanna SG New Providence | 2023 State NJ – 5-5 PG/SG, New Providence
Lamanna is the unquestioned leader of this team coming into the winter, a New Providence program re-invigorated with young talent as four of the top six scorers in the spring were freshman or sophomore.
She averaged 13.9 PPG, 3.4 RPG, 1.9 APG and 1.6 SPG last season, very strong numbers for the guard. Lamanna led New Providence in scoring as a sophomore and looks to continue to prove herself as one of the best guards in North Jersey.
Her key for the winter is to get her perimeter shooting back up to the numbers she posted as a freshman. We saw a dip in production from the three-point line as a sophomore, so if she can be the strong shooter she’s proven to be, then this junior season is going to be a massive one.
No. 33: Shannon Tighe Shannon Tighe SF Wayne Hills | 2023 State NJ – SF, Wayne Hills
Tighe has shown steady growth through her first two high school season, setting a career high in scoring average as a sophomore, 7.6 PPG. She scored nearly twice as many points as a sophomore in two less games than she played as a freshman.
If you need anything to signal just how much better and more poised of a player that she’s become, those numbers show a stronger, more aggressive and more confident player.
Tighe still has plenty of room to grow on the floor, but potential double-double numbers are well within her grasp, and if anything, she’s got the makeup of a prolific scorer, especially in the interior. Watch out for a big winter from her.
We have plenty more players to talk about and much more coverage coming your way, so stay tuned with Prep Girls Hoops New Jersey.
