The travel season concluded at the end of July. We look back at one of the summers top 2022 teams – the GT Queens.
Class of 2022
Samiyah Briggs Samiyah Briggs 5'7" | SG Calvary Christian | 2022 State FL 5’8 Shooting Guard (Calvary Christian Academy)
Briggs is an athletic shooting guard who averaged 17 points per game on the 2021 travel circuit this past spring/summer. She is one of the state’s top unsigned Seniors who can play pretty much any guard spot. She is a versatile offensive player who has a solid mid-range jumper, can get to the basket, and finish through contact. She was 1st team All County as a Sophomore and is on pace to reach 1,000 career points in the 2021-22 High School season.
Kahliya Gaitor 5’1 Point Guard (Calvary Christian Academy)
Gaitor is a small but dynamic guard who has a high motor and a quick first step. She loves to appliy full court pressure man to man picking up opposing teams point guards, making them handle the full 94 feet baseline to baseline. Offensively she is a floor general who is an extension of the coach on the court, keeping her team in their offensive sets and setting up her teammates for easy shots in scoring positions. She is a hard worker that plays with a lot of energy!
Elizabeth Schnell Elizabeth Schnell 5'7" | CG Calvary Christian Academy | 2022 State FL 5’5 Shooting Guard (Calvary Christian Academy)
Schnell averaged at points a game for the GT Queens this past spring / summer. She is a knock down 3-point shooter who can score in bunches and watch out when she gets hot! She can completely turn around a game by hitting 3, 4, or 5 3-pointers in a row! She was 1st Team All County nominated by both the Miami Herald and Sun Sentinel and is expected to be a key to Calvary Christian Academy success this upcoming season!
Natavia Johnson 5’7 Wing / Forward (Boyd Anderson)
Johnson is a big, strong guard who shoots a high percentage from the perimeter. It is not a good idea to leave her open as she is going to knock it down from 3 when she has time and space. She typically guards the opposing team’s best perimeter scorer, using her size, strength, and versatility to apply ball pressure and crowd their space. She is also great in the classroom, holding a 4.8 GPA.
Kierra McNicol 6’0 F Wing / Forward (Boyd Anderson)
McNicol is a big wing who averaged a double-double (points and rebounds). Offensively she can shoot from the perimeter (both mid-range and from 3), can put the ball to the floor and finish vs contact off the dribble, and she can go down low and score with her back to the basket. She is an excellent rebounder from the perimeter and uses her size and strength vs smaller players well. She was 2nd Team All-County last season for Boyd Anderson.
Class of 2023
Khyala Ngodu Khyala Ngodu 6'2" | PF Dillard | 2023 State FL 6’3 Forward / Center (Dillard High School)
Ngodu is one of the state’s top post players who has great height and length. She was nominated as 1st Team All-Conference as a Sophomore because of her size, rebounding ability and general overall presence on the inside. She is a rim protector who controls the paint and can play inside and out. She runs the floor well for her size and has a ton of upside. As one of the state’s top 2023 post prospects she has interest from a number of division one schools.
Brinya Rolax 6’1 Wing / Forward (Dillard High School)
Rolaz has great size and length as a 6’1 Forward. She is a very good rebounder on both the offensive and defensive end and plays hard and physical. She has a high basketball IQ, is a good decision maker and is a good passer from the post position.
Class of 2024
Jocelyn Gagnon Jocelyn Gagnon 5'10" | SF Somerset Prep North Lauderdale | 2024 State FL 5’11 Combo Guard (Calvary Christian Academy)
Gagnon was the youngest player of GT Queens 2022 squad. Holding down the point guard spot on the 2022 team, Gagnon showed her ability to see the floor well, distributing the ball to open players, using her height to pass over opposing defenses, and handle full court pressure. Her biggest strength is her ability to shoot the ball, which was on display all spring /summer. She had multiple games where she knocked down 3+ 3-pointers often being a zone killer, helping the GT Queens space the floor!
