As the rising sophomore class finished their first season of high school and summer ball, some players have really made a name for themselves. These are just a few players who have jumped in the most recent update for the class of 2024.
Amaya Bridgewater-5’9 G-Martin Luther: Following a solid season paired with summer with Playground Elite Bridgewater has shown her talent. She excelled at multiple events, including the PGH Champions Challenge. She has a unique skillset of strength and finesse. She is a versatile offensive talent who can handle the ball, who has the talent to develop into a very good prospect for the next level. In the newest rankings list, Bridgewater comes in as the number 19 sophomore in Wisconsin.
Shae Kelley Shae Kelley 5'9" | PG Brookfield East | 2024 State WI -5’9 G-Brookfield East: Kelley is very fluid as an athlete. She also has the tools to make plays on and off of the ball at both ends of the floor. After a very impressive three and a half steals a game during her freshman campaign, and impressing with her defense over the summer she is clearly gifted on the defensive end. Offensively her game isn’t as far along. As of now a lot of her points need to come from wide-open looks, but that’s ok. She has a passion for the game that is obvious, so I expect her to steadily diversify and improve her offensive game. Kelley, in the newest rankings, is the number 17 sophomore in the state.
Sarah Aleknavicius Sarah Aleknavicius 5'11" | CG Grafton | 2024 State WI -5’9 G-Grafton: Aleknavicius is a player who is simply in the right place all the time. Since she’s begun her high school career she has continued to impress. As a freshman, she shot a respectable 44% from the field and 76% from the line. Her potential to improve shooting-wise based on her free throw shooting is an obvious area of improvement. That being said she has been constantly impressing, and that seems to be a trend with her. She is currently ranked as the number 18 sophomore in Wisconsin.
Lyric Burns Lyric Burns 5'10" | PF Verona | 2024 WI -5’11 F-Verona: As a freshman at Verona Burns never really got a big offensive load to carry. However, she was able to show her talent over the summer. She has gained a reputation as a bruising forward wherever she’s gone. It will probably be something that continues into her game at Verona. One thing the Wildcats could use is a bit of what Burns brings. The different kind of game that Burns has to most players makes her someone that people won’t be used to guarding and could help her excel in the WIAA. Burns clocks in at No. 42 in the updated ’24 rankings.
Evelyn Tripp Evelyn Tripp 5'9" | CG Sparta | 2024 State WI -5’9 G-Sparta: Tripp has had a nice summer full of winning on Wisconsin Flight Elite . Playing roles on winning teams is so important, just learning how to win is vital. Even with that experience, there are a few things that really stand out with her. The number one thing I notice about her is how quickly she gets into her shot is insane. It is honestly one of my favorite parts of someone’s game to watch because it’s so noticeable, it’s hard to look away from. Tripp comes in at No. 61 in the new ’24 rankings.
Mya Nicholson Mya Nicholson 5'10" | SG Janesville Craig | 2024 State WI -5’9 G-Janesville Craig: Nicholson has been a standout in every place she’s played this past season. She plays in a way where your mind pictures how a high-level basketball player would play. She plays both ends of the floor extremely well and is a major contributor to winning. Her game will translate anywhere because of a few things how well she shoots, her ability to attack closeouts, her anticipation defensively just to name a few. Nicholson currently ranks as the No. 12 player in ’24.
Brooklynn Butler Brooklynn Butler 5'11" | CG Fond Du Lac | 2024 State WI -5’9 G-Fond du Lac: Butler as a freshman possessed all the physical tools of a good wing. Last season she showed flashes of what the best version of her there may be, particularly in a 23 point performance against Hartford. Coming off a solid first season Butler checks in as the No. 26 player in ’24.
Savannah James Savannah James 5'7" | CG Grafton | 2024 State WI -5’7 G- Grafton: James is an active athlete on both ends of the floor. Even when she’s beat on cuts she doesn’t give up on plays. On offense, James is willing to express herself and try to make plays all the time. Whether that’s a cross-court bounce pass or a drive she finishes with her off-hand in traffic. She plays with a ton of confidence and it shows every time she touches the floor. James comes in in the new ’24 rankings at No. 40.
