The Gators went 2-13 last season under head coach Alberto Jemperrie. Their schedule is a little misleading as they played teams like Westminster Academy, St. Thomas Aquinas, and Calvary Christian Academy. The good news is Everglades returns much of its roster.
Key players
Iesha Rhodin 2022 forward
Gloryn Letlow 2022 forward
Nyla McKnight 2022 forward
Uniyah Franklin 2023 forward
Reshea Joseph 2023 forward
Shanira Adderely 2023 guard
Tyra Blye 2024 guard
Jaylyn Laguna Jaylyn Laguna 5'0" | CG Everglades | 2024 State FL 2024 guard
Jazyln Laguna 2024 guard
Jahnya Lewis 2024 guard
Franklin could be the big watch here. The 6-foot-2 prospect is clearly long with a base of athleticism to be a top prospect in the region. Franklin received an offer from The University of North Alabama back in late July. She had D-1 potential and has received interest.
McKnight is a 6-foot forward that can score with her back to the basket. The Gators have two additional 6-footers in Blye and Joseph. Coach Jemperrie has length he can work with on both ends of the floor. In addition, 5-foot-10 Letlow is a team captain and can play multiple positions.
Key tournaments/events
Florida Prospects Thanksgiving Shootout – November 27-28, Winter Haven, Florida
Naples Holiday Shootout – December 28-30, Naples, Florida
SUTS New Year’s Classic – Janaury 7-8, Coral Springs, Florida
Overall, the roster is spread out with talented players across three classes. I think Everglades can run out multiple sets and give opponents problems. As you can see, the Gators have a solid group of sophomore guards. That area should develop as a strength for years to come. Overall, I’d take the over on Everglades winning more than two games.
