This is an area that has been dominated by programs like Plantation American Heritage and Pompano Blanche Ely. Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas got on the board with its first state championship last season. You can also never count out FTL’s Dillard and Westminster Academy.
Here are my picks for the 954…
Alancia Ramsey Alancia Ramsey 6'0" | PF St Thomas Aquinas | 2023 State FL – St. Thomas Aquinas
The Raiders got a huge add when Ramsey transferred over from Delray American Heritage. As a sophomore, Ramsey was named Palm Beach 5A-1A player of the year by the Sun Sentinel. She averaged an impressive 21 points and 13 rebounds per game with the Stallions. Now with Aquinas, expect more of the same with her. She’s a double-double machine, pure and simple.
Michiyah Simmons Michiyah Simmons 5'8" | PG Blanche Ely | 2022 State FL – Blanche Ely
2022 Michiyah Simmons Michiyah Simmons 5'8" | PG Blanche Ely | 2022 State FL is ranked as our highest rated South Florida prospect (No.13). The 5-foot-8 point guard has a strong handle and can score at will. Simmons averaged a team-best 14.9 points while shooting 51 percent from the floor as a junior. Moreover, she pulled down 4.6 rebounds per game and dished out 3.5 assists. On defense, she plays with good stability and has quick hands. Simmons averaged an impressive 3.4 steals per game. She’s an all-around performer and team captain for this team.
Joey Delancy Joey Delancy 5'8" | CG American Heritage | 2022 State FL – American Heritage Plantation
2022 Joey Delancy Joey Delancy 5'8" | CG American Heritage | 2022 State FL will look to end her prep career on a high note with another state championship. The 5-foot-8 prospect averaged 11.5 points per game while shooting an impressive 53 percent from the field. She’s a three-level scorer with unlimited potential. Delancy also rebounds well and is a staunch defender. She’s a very tough player and matchup problem for opponents.
Mya Kone Mya Kone 6'1" | SF Blanche Ely | 2022 State FL – Blanche Ely
I can’t pass up a 6-foot-2 forward that can protect the rim and run the floor like a guard. Mya Kone Mya Kone 6'1" | SF Blanche Ely | 2022 State FL is an elite player that can cause a ton of mismatch problems with her frame. She blocked over 3 shots per game and grabbed 171 rebounds as a junior. I think she’s becoming a better all-around prospect, particularly on offense. She’s tough to stop when she gets going and can score in transition. Kone played well against top competition and I don’t see that changing during her senior campaign.
Khyala Ngodu Khyala Ngodu 6'2" | PF Dillard | 2023 State FL – Dillard
2023 Khyala Ngodu Khyala Ngodu 6'2" | PF Dillard | 2023 State FL is the highest ranked player in her class in South Florida. She’s a 6-foot-2 forward with plenty of frame and power to make an impact around the low block. Ngodu plays well with her back to the basket and can score with either hand. Moreover, she has plenty of footwork and elusiveness in this area. Ngodu also makes an impact as a rebounder. She could be a high major prospect before its all said and done.
We increase our Top 5 to a Top 6 to include the newcomer to Broward County, Ta’Niya Latson Ta’Niya Latson 5'8" | CG American Heritage | 2022 State #47 Nation FL . Latson is a 5’6 Guard who transferred to American Heritage (Plantation) from Westlake High School in Georgia. She verbally committed to Florida State in August after holding offers from the Who’s Who of college basketball including Georgia, Alabama, NC State, Miami, Texas A&M, Ohio State, Baylor and Kentucky. She is one of the nation’s most prolific scorers and despite the fact that she is new to South Florida, she has been playing in fall league games with American Heritage, dropping 30-40 points per game. She helped lead Westlake to a 22-0 record and a state championship last season averaging 23.7 points per game. She had a huge summer for the Georgia based travel program FBC United, showcasing her skills in gyms all across the country. You can check out some footage on her in the video below.
