Charger Scrimmage Standouts
The Charger Scrimmage took place at Wayne Country Day School in Goldsboro this past Saturday with teams from all over Eastern North Carolina in attendance. Several prospects stood out from this event and their respective teams have chances to make deep playoff runs in 2022. Prep Girls Hoops NC highlights the top prospects who performed at a high level.
Le’Asia Matthews (Trinity Christian 2022 guard)
2022 guard Le’Asia Matthews did a little bit of everything in her teams three games. She’s a go-to scorer who gets it done from three point range and in transition. Matthews defended well against high quality guards throughout the day and will be one to watch this season. Alongside fellow starter Armani Carthins, the Crusaders should be a dangerous team in the NCISAA 2-A classification.

Another unsigned senior prospect that performed at a high level was [player_tooltip player_id="217750" first="Kimora" last="Cox"] from Wayne Country Day. She played the passing lanes well and made sure to get her teammates involved offensively while setting the tone on the defensive end. Cox has improved as a ball handler that can create her own shot and the Chargers will need that in the early stages of this season.
Carly Hammonds (Lumberton 2023 guard)
Hammonds was one of the top performers in attendance this past weekend thanks to her ability to knock down the three ball. Her communication on defense helped her team get in the right position to succeed throughout the day. The Pirates will be a tough team to beat in the 4-A classification thanks to Hammonds and a number of other quality guards on this team.
