Charlotte Hoops Challenge: 2022 Guards

Charlotte Hoops Challenge was a two day event full of great talent in the area. Here are some of the standout 2022 guards from the event. [player_tooltip player_id="260171" first="Katie" last="Houpt"] | South Meck 13 points // 9 rebounds // 3 steals // 1 assist Houpt showed off her range moving into the open areas and shooting from behind the arc. She came out strong in the beginning of the second half to help gain the lead for her team. Three must be her lucky number as she was three-for-three from deep in the third quarter. She also follows shots grabbing rebounds on both ends of the court. [player_tooltip player_id="116903" first="Kate" last="Hollifield"] | Shelby 17 points // 9 rebounds // 2 assists // 2 steals Hollifield had her hands involved on defense making it difficult for Myers Park to get anything by her. She took a steal from end to end battling through contact for some points. She follows shots, too, coming in strong for rebounds. She has such a quick release on her shot that it’s difficult for opponents to close out on her. Alanis Diaz | Charlotte Catholic 13 points // 8 rebounds // 3 assists // 3 steals Diaz (pictured above) is an excellent addition for the cougars. She’s quick on the court hustling back on defense grabbing a nice steal in transition. She doesn’t shy away from contact, especially on her drives to the rim. She follows shots to grab the rebound, and she can extend offensive possessions this way with ease. She has nice range shooting from deep, too. Shayana Portee | Concord Academy 17 points (4/5 from deep) // 6 assists // 2 steals Portee has a nice stroke from deep, and this came in clutch at the end of a close game. She was a tough defender getting in the way of her opponents and knocking the ball out of their hands. She anticipated passes on defense, and took it coast to coast on a solo fast break to bring her team within 2 points in a close game against Providence Day. [player_tooltip player_id="206412" first="Madison" last="Saunders"] | Lake Norman 10 points // 3 assists // 1 steal Saunders knocked down a big three pointer to start off her game. She showed a nice defensive IQ getting set for a charge ending the possession of her opponents. She has a nice floater in the paint to score some points. She hit a huge three pointer with a minute left in a close game against Julius Chambers to gain the lead.
