Carver played a tight zone that seemed to confuse Central at times, as Central’s offense was stagnant. After trailing at the half 20-28, Central came out in the 3rd quarter looking to speed up the game’s tempo and hoping to create some turnovers.
Carver Montgomery handled the pressure well as they relied heavily on Takya Camille Walters-Norman, who Central had no answer for. Headed into Q4, Carver kept a slim lead over Central, but Central led by Jayla McKissic made one last desperation run in the middle of the quarter, cutting the lead to 3. After forcing 3 consecutive turnovers and Camille Norman leaving the game with a leg injury with 2:51 left in the game, Central soon after took advantage and tied it up with a trey ball by Jabria Lindsey with 2:28 left in the game. After trading baskets, the game was tied at 40, with 1:37 left. Erin Perry, who Carver turned to down the stretch, sealed the game from the line, and Carver just got by Central with a 41-40 victory.
Game Standouts:
Carver-Montgomery High School
Takya Camille Walters-Norman (6’1/Wing/2023)
Instagram: Takya_.Norman
Twitter: @Takya Norman
Takya has good size at the wing spot. She was a force to be dealt with off the bounce and in the paint as she used her athleticism to finish in the paint and at the rim. She is highly versatile on both ends of the court. She was vocal on defense and assertive on the glass.
She has a nice overall game that I look forward to seeing the growth over the season.
She is an intriguing player who, with a solid season and a strong off-season plan for development, could have a huge senior season. Now I understand that this trajectory is far out, but I’m looking at how her stock could rise during this time. She has enough tools currently to land somewhere on the next level, and with a solid Junior season and a solid plan for development during the off-season, she should start seeing interest from the next level.
Takya finished with 14pts.

Erin Perry (6’0/Center/2023)

Erin has good size and battled hard in the paint. I was really impressed with how she stepped up down the stretch for her team. Which proved my thoughts as I watched her play, that she has more to give when she is out on the floor. She has the talent where she does not have to disappear from the game. I would love to see Erin be more aggressive on the offensive end and more dominant in the paint. She showed that she could handle the rock as she helped out against the press and attacked the back end of the press when she caught the ball in the middle. She was huge on the boards.
She is still evolving offensively, but she has the physical tools.
As I mentioned about her teammate Takya, Erin has the physical tools to play somewhere at the next level. I encourage her to continue putting in work this season, asserting herself more as she can play a major role in her team’s success.
Erin finished with 9pts.

Central High School (Phenix City)
Jayla McKissic (5’7/Shooting Guard/2022)

You could see the maturity of Jayla’s game throughout. She is a seasoned senior who has an excellent feel for the game and is confident in her game and her ability to produce. She can handle the rock, and when she was in attack mode, she finished well in the paint with a nice floater in her arsenal.
She can knock down the trey ball and is without a doubt the leader of her squad, and this team will go as far as she takes them.
Jayla finished with 16pts.

Southern Union
Jabria Lindsey (5’8/Point Guard/2026)

Yes, you see the classification correct. Jabria is an 8th grade that played beyond her years. She has good size, can handle the rock, and was looking to attack off the bounce. When she got going downhill, she attacked with purpose. Jabria embraced contact in the paint and at the rim. She got it done from all three levels and is just getting started as she hasn’t even scratched the surface of her potential.
I am looking forward to seeing how the remainder of the season goes for Jabria, but her name is one that you need to make sure you remember.
Jabria finished with 19pts.

Central has an exciting match-up this Tuesday vs Park Crossing. A good early-season match-up for both squads.
