It’s only week one of the 2021-2022 basketball season and we saw some flame throwers. The three-point game has taken over the girls game and has been a game changer. There are two things that can change the pace of a game and that’s taking a charge and hitting a big three. Some of these kids are taking 10-15 threes a game and shooting at a high percentage. I always say if you can be a knock down three point shooter you will get a college scholarship. The five girls below are not only good at shooting from beyond the arc but have mastered attacking the hoop. The best three point shooters read and react which is what these girls can do.
[player_tooltip player_id="178277" first="Jordan" last="Zubich"] - Mountain Iron Buhl, 2024 combo guard
At this point we all know Zubich can shoot the ball at a high clip from the three. In the second game of the tournament she made seven three pointers and was 50% from the from beyond the arc. Along with that she had 6 rebounds, 4 assist and didn’t miss from the free-throw line going 6 for 6. She ended the game with 29 points. You do the math. You might want to guard her tight from behind the three point line. The combo guard is the definition of a leader on the court and her teammates look for her to put up big numbers and she does just that consistently.
[player_tooltip player_id="178263" first="Laura" last="Hauge"] - St. Croix Lutheran, 2024 combo guard
You are probably getting sick of me saying Hauge is the best shooter in the state. I can say that with confidence because she always shows up and always knocks down big shots. It doesn’t matter if she’s coming off a screen, kick out or hitting the step back in your face, you can bet she’ll make it. The most underrated part of her game is her free-throws. She doesn’t miss. She shot 16/16 from the line in two games hitting 12 in the second game. Laura "struggled" from the three this weekend only shooting 38 percent where she is normally 50% or higher. However that didn’t stop her. The shooting guard has added to her game and can beat you off the dribble where she is good at taking contact and getting to the line.
Brooke Hohenecker - Providence, 2024 shooting guard
Brooke is a straight up shooter. She slips under the radar with three other top prospects on her Providence team but always seems to hit the big shot at the right time. The small shooting guard plays her role well and is always ready to catch and shoot from three. In the second game against Dowling the 5’5 guard shot 100% from the three, hitting four to making it a tight game. This year Brooke is looking to score off the bounce, and once she conquers that she will be hard to guard.
[player_tooltip player_id="148327" first="Haylie" last="Strum"] - Stewartville, 2024 guard
Strum was impressive during the tournament. She has a nice stroke from beyond the arc and shoots it with confidence. I was amazed by her ability to knock down transition threes. If you are guarding her you might want to pick her up at half court. Not only was she good from the three she also has a quick first step and was able to get to the hoop and knock down her free throws where she went 100% from the line.
[player_tooltip player_id="132376" first="Jacy" last="Weisbrod"] - Aquinas, 2022 combo guard
The Wisconsin standout was great in both games to say the least. She is headed to North Carolina to play basketball and you can tell she is ready for the next level. Jacy can shoot the ball from anywhere on the court, where she hit 4 threes in first game and hit 7 in her second game, where we had to call heat check on her several times. In the two games she shot 61% from beyond the arc. The shooting guard is really good in transition too where she usually has the ball in her hands and can pull up for a mid-range jumper with ease while everyone else is still running down the court.
Other Standout Shooters to watch:
