A lot of the 2024 players aren’t just participating or playing a small role, but are already the catalyst or an important piece for their respective programs. This article looks at some of the 2024 players on the First Coast who meet this criterion and stood out in the final week before the mid-season break.
Ansley Hicks 2024, 5’5” G (Paxon) Was really impressive last week. She did a good job of handling the ball against pressure defense and also when she was breaking the press. Offensively, Hicks was impressive and showed she could score on all three levels. She was most effective when penetrating and finishing at the basket. Hicks showed an array of moves. Hicks is a versatile player who can play at the shooting guard position or run the point. At point guard, she was isolated one on one against her defender and did a good job of making elite moves to the basket. Hicks is a good team player and playing alongside Kennedy Waymer Kennedy Waymer PG Paxon | 2024 State FL , makes the pair one of the toughest young guard tandems in the city. Through 10 games the talented Sophomore is averaging 17 points and nearly 3 steals per game.
Terrielle Clark Terrielle Clark 5'7" | CG San Jose Prep | 2024 State FL 2024, 5’7″ G (San Jose Prep). It was really great getting over to see a quality game between San Jose Prep and Andrew Jackson on the First Coast. One of the players who really stood out was Terrielle Clark Terrielle Clark 5'7" | CG San Jose Prep | 2024 State FL . Clark seemed to always be in the right place at the right time. On fast breaks, she filled the outside lane and made several key baskets during transition. Clark demonstrated great timing with her quick cuts to the basket without the ball. She scored several baskets in this manner. In the close contest, the Sophomore was composed beyond her years and the moment never seemed too big for her. During a frantic moment in the game, Clark backed the ball out, settled her team down, and initiated the offense. Clark made several key shots including a clutch 3-pointer. Clark also played great defense. She hustled on every play and went for every loose ball on the floor. Clark showed that she is one of the most talented and versatile Sophomores on the First Coast.
Mary Kate Kent Mary Kate Kent 5'6" | SG St. Johns Country Day | 2024 State FL 2024 G (St Johns Country Day). A few weeks back Kent had a 25 point performance. This past week she continued shooting the ball well. Kent had 14 points, including 4 three-pointers against cross-county rival Ridgeview and is presently averaging close to 13 points per game. Through 9 games the talented shooter has connected on 22 threes for the season. Kent all is a good defender who does a good job playing on-ball defense.
Zaniah Blake 2024 F 5’8″ (Baker County). I was really impressed by the overall game of Blake and even though her team was outmatched she stood out. She had the ability to dribble the ball and assist with press breaks and at times she brought the ball down the court herself. Offensively, Blake scored on the inside and the outside. She was more effective when driving to the goal, which she did with power and purpose. She showed good touch on her mid-range shots and she wasn’t afraid to shoot the three. She did a really good job of securing rebounds. Defensively, Blake blocked shots and changed some of the shots taken in the paint. Blake is a player to keep an eye on, and once she gets better players around her, she will be a force on the First Coast.
