There was some solid basketball action across the state of Michigan on Thursday. I’m going to give you 4 players and player performances that appeared notable to me for a variety of reasons.
[player_tooltip player_id="244267" first="Summer" last="Davis"] (2024, PG, West Bloomfield)
We already know how good and how talented Davis is, but games like this really show why we have her as the number 2 ranked prospect in the class. Her team defeated Ludington by a score of 69-22 and when she gets it done in every facet of the game like yesterday, the results are almost always going to be similar. Davis had 23 points in the win and was incredible as a floor general and a lockdown defender.
Leah Fleis (2024, F, Lake Leelanau St. Mary)
Fleis helped her team to a 46-38 win over Carleton Airport yesterday in the Lady Jets Holiday Showcase and the team went 2-0 at the event. She led the charge with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Fleis’ play is a big reason that Lake Leelanau St. Mary is off to a hot start to the season. As seen at the Holiday Showcase, she’s a key member of a very good starting 5 that will compete at a high level this year.
Isis Johnson (2025, G/F/ Westfield Prep)
Give Coach Cornell some young athletic talent, and watch out! Johnson is one of, if not THE, most talented freshman in the state. That was very evident at the Motor City Roundball Classic against Grand Blanc. She took home the MVP and helped her team to a 60-48 win. Johnson played very well at a high speed and was a terror in the open floor. With a combo like [player_tooltip player_id="189300" first="Shamya" last="Reid"] and Isis Johnson, Westfield Prep has the look of a state title contender.
[player_tooltip player_id="362295" first="Maddie" last="Yeager"] (2023, SG, Plymouth Christian)
Yeager was terrific against Bridgeport in the Motor City Roundball Classic. She led her team with 17 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 5 steals in a 70-23 win. Yeager’s play is significant because a third scoring threat to go with stars like [player_tooltip player_id="147782" first="Anna" last="Fernandez"] and Morganne Houk, makes an already tough Plymouth Christian team, virtually impossible to stop on the offensive end.
