The event also featured a boys’ slate of games that occurred at Westside High School. Unlike in previous tournaments where about 10 minutes occurred between games, around 20 minutes elapsed between contests on Monday at T.L. Hanna.
The stock is up on talents in South Carolina’s Upstate.
Prep Girls Hoops was at the home of the Yellow Jackets for the Monday afternoon slate of games. Here is a look at who shined among the sophomore, freshman and eighth grade classes.
Raina McGowens Raina McGowens 5'10" | CG Wren | 2024 State SC – 2024 – Wren HS – McGowens recently announced that when she hits the travel circuit this spring and summer she will play for Team Curry and has received offers from Presbyterian College and Appalachian State. She can play the role of primary point guard while being quick to the rim and finds pathways to the rim. Defensively, she stays active with her hands, can block shots, can pry the ball away and will make things difficult for opposing ball carriers. McGowens will take and make 3-point attempts, pass, hit her free throws and get from one end of the floor to the other in a quick amount of time. She scored 17 points in the Hurricanes’ win over Palmetto including 11 in the first quarter. She comes from a basketball family – her brothers Bryce and Trey both play at Nebraska (Trey transferred from Pitt) with Bryce being mentioned as a possible first-round 2022 NBA draft selection.
Ahri Scott Ahri Scott 5'6" | SG Westside | 2024 State SC – 2024 – Westside HS – Scott has already done a lot at Westside and has plenty more to do. In the Rams’ Monday afternoon contest with Belton Honea-Path, she was Westside’s leading point-getter after the first quarter, tallying 11 of her eventual 13 points. Scott is quick to the rim, fierce to the basket and confident in her 3-point and midrange shooting capabilities. Defensively, she can make things uncomfortable for opposing ball carriers. Transition-wise, she can get from one end of the court to the other with lots of speed. Scott also will draw a bit of contact and get to the free throw line.
Tamerah Wynn Tamerah Wynn 5'11" | SF T.L. Hanna | 2025 State SC – 2025 – T.L. Hanna HS – Talent “Wynn”s at T.L. Hanna – particularly the young talent. Coach Glenn Elrod has to be thrilled about the up-and-coming players he has on the Yellow Jackets roster. Wynn is a proficient rebounder who can make her free throw tries after being fouled. She runs the floor well and puts herself in position to convert on high percentage shot opportunities. Wynn was one of the five starters for the Yellow Jackets against the Bulldogs and led all point-getters with 13. She also stayed out of foul trouble having only two personals called against her.
Monasia Clinkscales Monasia Clinkscales 5'6" | PG Westside | 2026 State SC – 2026 – T.L. Hanna HS – No. 2’s play can definitely tip the scales in the Yellow Jackets’ favor in any game T.L. Hanna is in. A rising eighth grade talent with the skills of a seasoned veteran, she got the start for the Yellow Jackets on Monday vs. Pendleton. Clinkscales will shoot 3-pointers, bring down rebounds and display efficiency as a defender. Scoring wise, she had one of those common “not how one starts, but how one finishes” sort of games. She scored all five of her points in the fourth quarter and all five at the free throw line in a Yellow Jackets 40-30 victory that actually was even closer than the final score indicated.
