We will first focus on the players in the Class AAA in Arizona and see who stood out above the rest over the holiday week.
Carmella Baldwin – Junior – 5’6″ – Arizona College Prep
Carmella is a five-foot-six combo point/shooting guard for the Arizona College Prep Lady Knights. With only a handful of games into the season, the junior is averaging 14.1 points per game and 1.3 rebounds per game. Baldwin has scored in double-digits for every game so far except the first of the year against Gilbert Classical Academy where she finished the game with 9 points. #1 has the ability to knock down the long three-ball but will also take it to the hole for the old-school three-point play. Versatile player that will be fun to watch over the next couple of years.
Molly Garnard – Junior – Pusch Ridge Christian Academy
As a junior, this season for the Pusch Ridge Christian Academy Lady Lions, the power forward/center Molly Garnard, has had an impressive first week out of the gates for the 2021-2022 high school basketball season. So far she is averaging 25.5 points per game, 11.5 rebounds per game and, 2.0 assists per game to help her team start off the year at 2-0. Molly has played up at the Varsity level throughout all of her years at Pusch Ridge and I think that she will be at an advantage by being able to say that. Garnard is the type of player that will clean it up down low and make the best decision for her teammates not just herself.
Loanne Billon – Sophomore – 5’8″ – American Leadership Academy
Billon is a five-foot-eight sophomore captain for the American Leadership Academy Lady Warriors that is currently averaging 18.5 points per game and 5.0 rebounds per game. She is also averaging 2.5 assists per game and 2.0 steals per game showing her versatility on the court. In only a couple of games played so far, Loanne has already knocked down three big three-pointers and has been dominating the boards. The combo point guard/shooting guard has already come out of the gates ready to put on a show for the season in the Arizona Class AAA.
Jaci Gonnie Jaci Gonnie 5'6" | SG Winslow | 2024 State AZ – Sophomore – Winslow High School
Gonnie is a sophomore guard for the Winslow Lady Bulldogs that played up on Varsity as a freshman and is returning to the court again for another year. With just a few games into the season, Jaci is averaging 18.3 points per game, 4.5 rebounds per game, 4.3 steals per game and, 3.0 assists per game. She is an extremely valuable piece to this team with her accurate shooting ability and the way that she hustles every time a foot steps onto the floor. There has not been a game this season where Gonnie has put up less than 15 points or shot under 50% from the field. There is a very bright future in store for this young gun!
Vienna Elliott – Junior – 6’2″ – Pusch Ridge Christian Academy
Another tough competitor out of Pusch Ridge Christian Academy is six-foot-two junior, Vienna Elliott. The center for the Lady Lions is averaging 15.0 points per game and 10.0 rebounds per game, followed by 2.0 steals, 1.5 blocks and, 1.0 assists per game to start off the year. In just the first couple of games, Elliott has finished both scoring in double-digits and over 60% from the field. She is accurate when near the basket down low and will do whatever it takes to secure the rebound when a ball goes up. Vienna is a hardworking player with a lot of potential over the next couple of seasons.
