Southern Arizona Showcase Players To Watch This Season

The Southern Arizona Showcase took place on September 20th in Marana, Arizona. We had a great preview at what is expected this upcoming season. Below are some players I expect to have big seasons and being crucial to their team's success.

Morales recently transferred from Cienega to Sahuarita. This move gives Sahaurita one of the more impressive Forward/Wing rotations in Southern Arizona. Watching her play at the Southern Arizona Showcase I was impressed with her ability to shoot from the perimeter and the confidence she plays with. Very mature player for her age who just plays the game. Morales impacts the game in all areas. An effective rebounder, shot blocker and very impressive on the defensive end. A great pick up for the Mustangs.

The Lancers have a solid underclassmen group. Definitely one of the top in the state. Wilmore is one of the sophomores who headlines this group. A gritty two way guard who plays with an impressive motor. Peyton has a very skilled handle, attacks and can score in a variety of ways. A relentless defender who picks up the length of the court. Saw some very good rotation minutes this off season including at Section 7.

Berg has made a good jump in her development this off season. She has gotten extremely comfortable with running the offense and becoming a vocal leader. A solid perimeter shooter who can also thrive driving the lane and getting the score through contact. An impressive passer through traffic who definitely makes her teammates better. Good on ball defender who will pressure opposing guards into uncomfortable decision making. Mica Mountain will look to make some noise this year with Berg at the helm.

Del Rio had an excellent off season and her showing in the Southern Arizona Showcase was no different. She plays with confidence and seems to have a knack for making clutch plays. With the girls top 40 game in overtime none other than Kayla took it upon herself to knock down the game winning three pointer. I haven't seen a player consistently make these high pressure plays like I've seen Del Rio make this off season.

Chavis had a strong showing at this event. She will come into her junior season with what I predict could be a true breakout year after a very productive sophomore season. She has a high percentage mid-range she shoots off the dribble. Can also get it done from outside the arc. Makes the hustle plays. Not afraid to get on the floor for the loose ball. Crashes the boards and rebounds well. I expect Chavis to be one of if not the top scorer for the Cougars this upcoming season and could be in a region player of the year award discussion.
