Evaluations of these girls are what we witnessed from them while in the gym, no preconceptions or anything, just plain watch and see. We enjoyed our time and the Artesia Staff was a great host for the event, we will definitely come back next year and cover the event.
Edgewood Players Who Impressed:
2023, G, Isabella Sanchez – Strong and quick guard that can up and down the floor with a very good handle. She is aggressive to the basket and is one of the better offensive players on her team, she provides the energy for her squad. She is a good defender and gets after it on the floor and makes plays for her team.
2023, G, Magdalena Rabanal – Another scrappy guard from this team that give it her all when on the floor, she is aggressive as well and is a hard-nose player. She can handle the rock, she can defend and she can rebound at her size as well. She chases her opponents down on defense and does not allow them to score, she is a ball hawk and we love seeing her do this on the floor.
Early College Compton Players Who Impressed:
2022, 5’3, PG/SG, Lyana Paige – Scrappy guard with a lot of attitude when she is on the floor, she was the primary ball handler for her squad and is quite the athletic specimen that did some good things on the floor. She can shoot the ball from the midrange and get to the rim, but she is working on her three point shot, which we saw her hit one or two in the games we watched her play. She is quick, can handle the rock well and runs the team like her coach has asked her to, she is really a hard working player and does not give up on the floor when she is playing.
2022, 5’5, G/SG, Au’ Janal Horton – She was one of the guard that came off the bench and gave the team what they needed when the primary point guard needed a rest. I would of love to see these two guards play together, cause both of them could provide the one-two punch needed to get the team going, cause they both could get to the rim and score. She was proficient in her defensive ability and was one of the most active guards on the floor besides her teammate I talked about above. I love her focus in the game and she was fun to watch.
