Continue ReadingIn my opinion, some players can shoot, and players can space the floor. I want to talk about four players I’ve seen that whose range goes far beyond the 3-point line. These players all have varying roles on their teams. I am only talking about their ability to space the floor, not the rest of their game. These five names aren’t in any particular.
Callie Ziebell-5’6 G-’22-Slinger. Ziebell couldn’t play much this last year due to a torn ACL. When I decided to make this list, Ziebell, is the first player that came to mind. If the 3-point line were to 35-feet away from the basket, I don’t think it would affect Ziebell at all. Ziebell hasn’t decided where she’ll play next season, but any team looking for a floor spacer should look no further than Callie Ziebell.
Natalie Mueller Natalie Mueller 5'6" | SG Homestead | 2025 State WI -5’7 G-’25-Homestead: Mueller is the most obvious floor spacer I’ve seen since joining PGH Wisconsin. The first time I saw Mueller was at the PGH Top 250 Expo. The first thing I saw her do was sink about a 35-foot straight-away 3-pointer. From that moment on, I’ve known that Mueller has the confidence to shoot from anywhere on the floor. Mueller has made at least one 3-pointer in every game this season for the 8-1 Homestead Highlanders. Mueller is currently shooting 40% from the 3-point line.
Sammie Buss Sammie Buss 5'5" | PG Neenah | 2023 State WI -5’5-’23-Xavier: Words can’t describe how excited I am to see Buss back on the floor as soon as tonight. After a torn ACL in May, from what I’ve seen via Twitter, Buss could play tonight. When I was doing conference previews before the season, I saw what Buss did last season and searched for her highlights. What I gathered in September on Buss was that she had pro range. Any space given to Buss is already too much space. Her ability to space the floor the way she does will open up space for every Xavier teammate she has. Whenever Buss gets going, she could make her team a problem in Division 3.
Bella Samz Bella Samz 5'9" | PG Arrowhead | 2023 State WI -5’9 G-’23-Arrowhead: As a player, I’m hard-pressed to find many faults in Samz’s game. Shooting is no problem for the junior. Her jumper will translate at the next level. I haven’t seen her stretch her shots out the volleyball line, mostly because she’s doing a lot of creating for her teammates. That said, Samz is capable of doing that. Although the Warhawk may not have the most range in the state, she has some and is by far the most demoralizing shooter I’ve seen for defenses.
Sammi Beyer Sammi Beyer 5'7" | CG Appleton East | 2023 State WI -5’7 G-’23-Appleton East: I say it every time I bring her up, but Sammi Beyer Sammi Beyer 5'7" | CG Appleton East | 2023 State WI is the best shooter in Wisconsin. I haven’t seen a shot leave her hands that I didn’t fully expect to go in without touching the rim. The junior Patriot is in range the second she wakes up in the morning, and that’s only slightly hyperbolic. This season she’s shot 47% from behind the 3-point line on over six attempts per game. That kind of usage on a team with two players playing Division 1 basketball in power five conferences next year is incredible. It makes me wonder where she’ll play after she graduates.
