The Cobra Tip-Off Classic is an annual 3-day event that Coach Frank Oliver founded named after the popular DC Cobras team he had years ago that was one of the top teams in the country. The event hosted teams from four states, the District of Columbia and Ontario, Canada. One of the top games scheduled was between two local premier programs Bishop McNamara and Riverdale Baptist School. As fate would have it the RBS Crusaders were down six players to injury three of which being starters. This would be too much for any team to overcome facing one of the top teams in the country. There were still players that shined in front of the college coaches in attendance despite a lopsided 95-44 game.
Stand-out players:
Yanniah Boyd Yanniah Boyd 5'11" | SF Riverdale Baptist School | 2023 State MD – 5’11″ – Wing – Riverdale Baptist School – 2023
Yanniah dropped 15 points in the losing effort. She was required to run the point rebound and guard both the perimeter and post as the Crusaders were shorthanded at every position. She proved her worth to the college coaches in attendance and showed she is a player ready for primetime. She did everything asked and showed that she can handle the ball well under pressure and knock down the three as well.
Gia Cooke Gia Cooke 5'9" | PG Bishop McNamara | 2022 State #50 Nation MD – 5’8″ – Combo Guard – Bishop McNamara – 2022
Gia seemed to get stronger as the game went on. Vintage Gia is as good as any guard in the country and attacks the basket finishing with contact at a high level. She had her game going scoring 15 points including a back breaking four point play as the Crusaders looked to make one last run.
Sahyna Jah – 6’2″ – Forward – Bishop McNamara – 2023
Jah in on an all-American pace in her junior season. She seems like she’s adding a new skill every time she takes the floor. This time it was the drive and no-look dish in transition that raised eyebrows. She scored 14 points but her presence on the floor was worth another 10 as she impacted the game in other ways.
Caia Loving Caia Loving 6'3" | PF Riverdale Baptist School | 2022 State MD – 6’3″ – Post – Riverdale Baptist School – 2022
Caia scored 11 points in a solid all-around performance. She controlled the paint scoring and defending inside. She showed balance opened up her mid-range shot and handled the ball some in the open floor. She had some early foul trouble but was smart enough to remain in the game and still keeping up her intensity.
Princess Moody Princess Moody 5'8" | CG Bishop McNamara | 2025 State MD – 5’7″ – Point Guard – Bishop McNamara – 2025
Princess has worked her way into the lineup as the starting point guard and didn’t disappoint. She knocked down a couple of three pointers to start the game and her defensive intensity was infectious getting three steals in the first few minutes. She has established herself in only her fourth game as the premier freshman point guard in the class.
